Beaufort Note 13/09/16 - Our view: This news clearly demonstrates the power a large user-base social media brand, like MyChat, hands to the operator. It rapidly sucks in enthusiastic users who are still relatively new to the world of online gaming and then creates a compulsive and competitive arena from which to monetise a captive audience. Quite clearly, Myanmar is primed for the introduction of such content for which locals are now demonstrating a huge appetite. Assuming MySQUAR can sustain its current momentum through the introduction of a succession of similar freemium offers in coming months and years, then Myanmar's only wholly local language platform will retain its enviable status as the 'go-to' site in a country which is, in reality, is the world's very last major telecom frontier. Such success makes the Group's recent forecast, that it will achieve 5 million registered users across its different applications by the end of 2016, look easily within reach. The monetisation revenue stream will be leveraged through its agreement with MyPAY to increase profit margins, while management is also in negotiations for a commercial agreement with a VoIP technology provider, and both sides are working on technical integration of their respective services. The voice calling business - similar to a highly successful counterpart in Cambodia - is targeted for launch in the 4th quarter of calendar 2016. Thankfully none of these projects significantly build on operating costs, which means cash generated goes almost directly to the bottom line. This all suggests MySQUAR will more than deliver on its promises and, based on recent progress, has the very real potential to be achieving monthly break-even or better before the end of the current financial year. This is something that is unlikely to have been missed by its numerous and very cash-rich global peer group, who remains determined to continue ensnaring players in virgin territories that have successfully participated in an online user 'landgrab'. In this respect, MySQUAR now appears quite dramatically undervalued; Beaufort has set a price target of 21.0p/share and repeats its Speculative Buy recommendation.

Beaufort Securiies has put out a very positive note on the progress and potential of MYSQ this morning which someone on the LSE bb has posted. They have restated their target price of 21p. As well as stating how the company will grow on its own they also point out how attractive MYSQ will be to the global big boys with its first mover advantage in Burma.

Myanmar and Laos are the least two developed of the ASEAN nations. So therefore potential gains investing in these countries as they progress are significant. This looks a very good way to get in to Mayanmar via a LSE listing so happy to hold and add if opportunity arises .... so now I just need to find a way to get in to investing in Laos .....

I got my macro timing reasonable right with Thailand and then Vietnam .... so hopefully now with Myanmar then Laos. The ASEAN countries actually look to the long-term:

"Digital technologies in ASEAN could potentially be worth up to US$625 billion by 2030"

Burmese social media platform MySQUAR Limited’s (LON:MYSQ) foray into online gaming seems to be paying off.

Its latest game, MyFish, generated half a million users in the first three weeks since its launch.

Currently players are generating revenues of US$600-$800 a day at a gross profit margin of 44%.

MyFish has ‘gone viral’ and attracted more than 1.5mln users in the five weeks since launch.

Average daily revenue in August was US$800 per day, rising to US$1,120 per day in the first 7 days of September and is now over US$1,500 per day with new features also set to be introduced.

It expects sales could eventually rise to US$1,500-US$2,000 a day within two months.

Big role for little games

Chief executive Eric Schaer hinted that gaming would play a larger role going forward, as the company delivers on its promise of releasing a new game every two months.

“Our experience so far indicates that our programme of game roll-outs will become very valuable to the company."

“We are confident that as we release more games we will continue to grow the revenue from this line of business,” he added.

"In less than 45 days the game has achieved tremendous results. Myanmar is absolutely primed for the introduction of new games and has demonstrated that there is a huge appetite for such content."

Target of 5mln registered users

MySQUAR said it “confidently expects” to have 5mln registered users platform by the end of the year.

It currently boasts over 2.5mln users, with new profiles being added at a rate of around 160,000 a month.

But, with a population of around 56mln people, and roughly 13mln of those under the age of 24, it would seem that there’s still a significant portion of the market that remains untapped.

MySQUAR started back in 2013, having identified the opportunity to launch a social media platform in the rapidly emerging market of Myanmar (Burma).

It has a “first mover advantage” which the group believes will help it to become “the social network of choice in Myanmar”.

Improved internet coverage

The Burmese government has recently announced initiatives to improve wireless internet coverage in the country over the coming year.

Combined with cheaper smart phones and SIM cards, the group said the country is on the verge of an internet revolution and it wants to be at its forefront.

The actual platform comprises several different apps, from ‘meme’ makers through to mobile games, but the most notable app is MyChat, which is a free social chat app aimed at young people.

Perhaps MySQUAR’s greatest asset is that it has identified ways to make money from its users, something other social media sites, including Twitter, have struggled with.

The group is pursuing five routes to monetisation, through advertising; partnerships; digital goods and in-app purchases; data mining; and online monetary transactions.

It's all changing over in Myanmar

Myanmar’s economy continues to grow; over the past year growth was 7% and is predicted at around 8% each year in the medium term according to the World Bank.

The US, too, is removing some of its trade restrictions as the political situation has normalised.

Earlier this year, the country swore in its first democratically elected civilian leader in over half a century.

Thein Sein of Myanmar’s National League for Democracy (NLD) won the presidency after a landslide victory for the party back in November.

One of the NLD’s primary concerns is the reform of previous military-led restrictions on the media and communications.

In August 2012, Myanmar ceased government censorship of media outlets and the internet due to campaigning by the party.

Sein already has a legacy of reform under his belt and it is hoped the NLD will dissolve current sanctions on foreign trade and business.

45 trades in the first 10 minutes of trading with 17 of those trades in the first minute. That's a lot of activity for such a small share. It's a shame it's occurred on a day when all the markets around the world are having a very bad day.

The spike on opening following the positive trading statement shows the potential for big gains here going forward. The spike was over 30% but has now settled back to a 5.5% gain on a volume of 3.5 million in the first 45 minutes of trading.

New game should bring in more revenue, on a level with the current game, also as more games are introduced it will attract more subscribers, increasing the income from advertisers on the pay per click model.

Imo if this goes like its looking it will.. Unique product/market in a developing country... Its not unreasonable to think we may see a purchase of mysquar from one of the big boys down the road... In on this for a small wedge but still classing it as a risk investment as far as portfolio goes.. One to let run its course though.
