Dean,

Ok, but it would be marginal, if % rates go up by the small ammmont planned.

It must be something else.

Prospects of a rise in interest rates would mean them earning more on the amount of cash they have to hold no doubt.

well done, we all get it wrong sometimes the key is not to let your losses become too large.

No offence taken - a sadly accurate assessment of my skill in timing trades.

I closed for a loss a few days ago, but I'll certainly let you know when I'm back.

shorting this chart looks high risk to me, particularly with two institutions buying recently and the potential for a break through resistance, risk reward looks too unfavourable, imv. If this is the beginning of a new trend then it can stay overbought for some time. Woodford had quite a strong following, those that buy his funds also buy into some of his stocks too, i know several investors who pick and choose from his portfolio.

On the other hand it migh revert back to a trading range between 600p and 675p, buy the troughs and sell the peaks.

That's a risk for sure.

But to turn it around, I wouldn't go long because the insurance market is dire, there have been lots of large losses in H1 and we are now in hurricane season.

I wouldn't go short with all the m and a

Back for another try - I'm short again.

The Energy market, to which Lancashire has greater proportionate exposure than any other London Market carrier, is in crisis and Terrorism, another major class for Lancashire, is coming under severe pressure due to the introduction of further broker facilities.

In my opinion, the LRE top line will suffer dramatically and much of this will feed through to bottom line.

Yes bru you could say that but heavy divs distort the picture. If you ex out the last 75p div it becomes a channel 600-700p.

Been keeping an eye on these, on and off, since early this year, and wish I'd bought then! I am now looking to make a few changes to my portfolio atm.

Is it just me or is this forming an inverse head and shoulders?

Great share, always the fall after the divi, but always the rise, for the next divi.

Hi ursus,

And he's up to 14% on PLUS, IIRC.

I suppose that's what makes a market.

Entering hurricane season now which I think is a big exposure for many reinsurers - wonder how frequent m and a is at thus time?

Well, I took the Friday bounce to exit at 625 taking an overall loss of about 7% when I factor in the divis over the last 18 months so not a great investment but I can't get away from the underlying business environment.
I do think that there is still a possibility that they will be taken out but I have held stocks before on that basis and it has never ended well.
Now that I have sold you can doubtless expect a bid to arrive imminently!

Agree. But the competitive environment brings consolidation and this must be an attractive company?
harleymaxwell

Not sure about that....I am a holder and must admit that I am considering using the euphoria of today to get out.
The divi is very attractive but their underlying business environment is still very difficult.
