I can see both sides of this one. IF you believe in stop losses and have a system in place then there's no point in just ignoring it. However, I find it hard to combine feeling it is a fundamentally good company and selling it just because the market is having one of its all too often "blue" periods.

Good fortune regardless!

I guess you just have to take a long term view on stop losses ; some you win...

Yes you're right but it hit my stop loss so was forced to sell. I'll wait for the trading update on 24th February and may buy again.

Not sure I follow the logic ; selling as the share price is falling but you are sure it is a good company?
Is that not the time to hold on and await a share price recovery?

I'm sure this is a good company but I had to sell as losing too much. Results will be on 24th February so may buy back depending on these. I received a reply to an e-mail yesterday which said there will be no trading update this January unlike last year. GL to all holders.

The great advantage that Interserve holds when the going gets tough is that their business is diversified to so many parts of the globe.

The one area where they do not seem to have enough penetration is Europe. They have the expertise to make Europe a very large export market, but up to now they have concentrated on markets where there is less direct competition in their field. With business around Europe picking up it is more than time to make a big push to claim a share of the investment that is now taking place. It might be a good idea to purchase an existing European company to facilitate entry.

Well the whole Middle East situation can't be helping sentiment for a company which does so much business in the region. Besides the oil price, which is beginning to impact the region's economies, the Saudi/Iran standoff and threat of Sunni/Shia rivalries could be seriously destabilising.

Something to do with China, I think. And the oil price. And the new living wage.

Decided I would have back my trading stock if they reach 515 again; it will still make me 9% on my last sell.
My feeling is that the recent market wide drop is largely manipulated by fund managers . Sure, there are uncertainties, but faint hearts miss opportunities as well as fair maidens. Or dark ones.
If the latest broker predictions are correct , this will be earning an impressive 12% of the share price next yr.
Picked them up for 513 later. Even better.

They have a well diversified portfolio however they are going to face headwinds in the UK with the large rise in the minimum wage and I am pretty sure that their business in the middle east is going to struggle as government budgets are slashed with the plummeting oil price so overall I see challenges ahead for them.
I am happy to wait for the next update and if that is strong I will buy in.

There again if you keep on adjusting your buy price downwards you end up missing the boat. I adjusted mine to 505p, now it has bounced a bit I am wondering if I was over-aggressive... Ho hum. Still, other opportunities will arise I guess.

Getting close to my £5 target but I am not so sure that I want to pull the trigger here.
It is clearly much better value than Serco but that does not of itself make it a buy.

Interesting that Serco shares are crashing after profit warning. Could well be that Interserve are picking up some of the business that used to go to Serco.

Edmundshaw points out that this should be a good sector for coming years. With less competition from Serco it could be particularly good.

Seem to be lifting off the bottom now.

With the budget promising new prisons and presumably demolishing or adapting the old ones, plus the greatest road building since the 70s and house building and train line upgradings, this looks a good sector for a few years yet. Happy to add at the lows here.

To be honest I think Interserve will not show any promise until 2017. By then the living wage costs should have been recovered from Clients or savings made elsewhere to offset them. I also think that by then profits from current construction projects should be coming through and upcoming projects will be at better margins. Their newer acquisitions will be leaner by then too giving an improved bottom line.
I will wait for a slump at some point next year in the share price and then buy lots of them!

Does anyone else think the chancellor's "building" budget is good for Interserve? New prisons, NHS increase, more homes...

I guess the drag is oil and the new living wage. But the latter is a short term issue, the former must correct sooner or later. And IRV is still a strong company in its sector, and seems to have been hit more than, say, Carillion (which I also hold).

Was waiting for this statement but wont be re entering.
Nothing wrong with the statement but equally nothing in there to get me excited.
I am of the distinct impression that the global economy is slowing down quite a bit which will make things more difficult for everyone.
