15/2/2008 12:57 | simonparker5 - thanks. I haven't held GOC for long but did have it before in a small recovery position and probably lost money overall. But bought back in recently. It is risky given the recovery story and illiquidity. So I try to diversify and am also in Goldenport and might look at some others such as CKN which appears fairly lowly rated but has some issues. Also I think these stocks will probably remian lowly rated. So watching and waiting. GLBS looks interesting but I can't really manage to understand it. slap | slapdash
15/2/2008 12:40 | Slapdash, one site which I use is www.shipping.capital Excel Marine is my other US play, this and Dryships are the ones I have researched the most and to me offer great value. Have you held GOC for long? I have been in and out if these since May but have always kept a core holding. I really like GOCs steady as she goes policy and I think the new management have done a great turnaround job. | simonparker5
15/2/2008 11:53 | simonparker5 - how do you research U.S. stocks??? What sources do you use??? was interested in buying some U.S. shipping companies but couldn't find info.. also is this your preferred dry shipping play or what about the others here... i.e. glbs.... gprt...hcc and ckn..... bms...... last two are ship brokers I think.. slap | slapdash
15/2/2008 11:24 | Harry Drydships released their 4th quarter and full year profits after the bell last night. 4th Qtr EPS was $5.23 and full year was $11. Shares put on over 7% in after hours trading to $90. They were as low as $48 only a month ago, I know because I bought some. If 4th qtr is a new base line then this projects $20 per share for the current year putting them on a PE of 4.5. I really believe GOC will put in a similar performance next Thursday when their results are announced. Also BDI is on the way up again which will help the sector. | simonparker5
15/2/2008 11:14 | Dryships in the US has been rising over last few days. Perhaps GOC may follow suit. | harrykewell
11/2/2008 10:48 | Nice to see a few trades going through today. | harrykewell

08/2/2008 13:37 | not a great article in IC mag.Showed prospective p/e and dividend for the year to december 07,needed to show the forecast for the full twelve months to december 08 where a step change in profits should occur.Maybe they thought those figures looked too good to be true. | lonrho
08/2/2008 08:56 | bdi has bounced back nicely.... slapper | slapdash

08/2/2008 07:56 | Big pre market mark up this morning. MMs got wind of some news or has someone put in a large buy order. I wonder? | simonparker5
07/2/2008 14:02 | A lot depends here what deals have been struck whilst the BDI was very high, if nearly 100% occupancy of cargo happens for 2009 , it should fly | minuteman
05/2/2008 20:42 | Cheers Courant. Thanks for your reply. Please keep posting as this forum is a bit low on postings. HK | harrykewell
05/2/2008 18:06 | courant You seem to be well up on this sector , 83% occupancy for 2008 looks pretty good to me. Whats your view on this and the rates that they have achieved this year. In other words How do you see the results panning out. | robsy2
05/2/2008 17:06 | Yes, because it's an important part of their business model and important for investors to see earnings into the future. Dryships (AFAIK) employ their fleet almost entirely on the spot market so, no, they don't make announcements for that reason. Dry bulk firms operate their businesses in a variety of ways. It's important to look at each individual company carefully to see how they earn their money, how they're financed, and what they do with their surplus cash. Courant | courant
05/2/2008 16:30 | Is it normal in this industry to announce advance bookings? Do Dryships Inc make similar anouncements? It looks promising. | harrykewell
05/2/2008 09:31 | Very good news out today and great to see advanced bookings so far into the future. Wish I had more funds than I do to topup. | apetley
04/2/2008 22:40 | I see we have a new and improved Website, hopefully we will see an improved share price as well. | simonparker5
