In the light of that what are the benefits of a b share scheme over a special dividend? In the RNS this morning it is confirmed to be a b scheme.

atlantic - true - but does the market pay attention to morningstar? thought moody's or fitch were the preferred agencies.

seems it is a b share scheme. i thought i read somewhere that the last autumn statement negated the tax benefits of such a scheme. completely unsure of that - b scheme it is.

Philanderer we are in a state considerable economic uncertainty with the risk of nations/ Banks/ Companies at risk of going bust.

An A plus rating is worth a lot if true and could well drive share price up on this metric alone.

LONDON--Pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline PLC (GSK.LN) said Wednesday that it now expects to complete its three-part transaction with Novartis AG (NOVN.VX) in the week commencing March 2, following good progress on obtaining clearances and regulatory approvals.
The three-part transaction with Novartis includes Glaxo's acquisition of Novartis's vaccines business, the creation of a consumer healthcare joint venture and the divestment to Novartis of Glaxo.

That's sooner than expected, so very good news

Nope because the spreadbet would reflect the payout and the price would drop but you would get cash equivalent paid in.

GSK are traded on the US exchange as ADRs the news came out yesterday after the UK market had closed but while the US was open and so if the news was significant it would have moved the ADRs and thence the UK shares this am.

The price has climbed steadily as the news has developed, and it will likely drop 83p when the Special payout comes about.

More news re Novartis deal late today. Wonder if there will be a surge in share price when more people realise that there is likely to be an imminent large special divi in the form of the B shares?
