Nice contract win - that shows DRS's technology and experience in e-counting systems is the best available.

As we move towards e-voting and e-counting of all general and local elections over the next few years, this should result in many similar contracts in the future.

well after a year of waiting the trend finally starts to kick in a la elliott wave theory on daily and macd weekly bullish. not many shares available, any hint of buying might possibly send it north fairly rapidly. share price was going up this morning by magic on no buys!! having been 40% down when it hit 10p and having topsliced 30% already before the trend kicks in, needless to say i'm very happy to hold :)

Hello moosh

I can't really find anything to recommend about this company.
They seem to have been doing the same areas of business for several years now without making any inroads and they don't seem to have any grip on the finances.
To me this company should have enough turnover to return tidy profits if they had control of the costs.
That's not to say the business has no potential - but from the past few years results all they have manangement seem to do is try this and that without success whilst continuing to take their salaries.
Perhaps a decent big election contract will come along and spike the shareprice back up with the promise that this may lead to bigger and better things - this would probably be a perfect time to sell.
Good luck with your purchase.

s34icknote!!!!!!!!!!! i'm here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! fwiw :/

came across this one by random (i pick shares and then research them by randomly inputting 3 letters into my level2 monitor and seeing if anything exists, or the other way is to look at the 3 neighbouring letters on a car number plate and see if a company exists!)

well, i read the latest figures and stuff and they didn't read too happily, BUT directors were buying few months before, so i'm guessing that if they knew the figures were rubbish and still buying, then maybe, just maybe, something's in the water. not had good proper read into things, but liking the fingerprint pupil attendance pilot things they're testing out. perhaps they should roll it out to workplaces and stuff. bought this morning for a punt and will sees how it goes!!!!!!!!!!

These look undervalued to me.

The last Scotish election may have had a few problems with the different electoral systems for council and parlimentary seats and with automated counting but I think there's likely to be another sooner rather than later and it will give DRS a lift and some +ve {this time} publicity.

Alternatively ...

A shambles overnight in Scotland. Not all DRS's fault, but they appear partly to blame.

...the Scotland Office said it was important that the Electoral Commission looked into the issues "as a matter of urgency".
It said: "Obviously, in various places, serious technical failures have arisen to delay the announcement of results."
The Scotland Office said these failures must be investigated by DRS, the company which operates the electronic counting system...
...and the performance of the electronic counting machines."

...Sonya Anderson, head of elections for DRS which implemented the automated counting system, said there was a problem with the "consolidation" of the votes.
She said: "As we scan the ballot papers we are capturing the votes and recording the fact we are capturing those votes.
"Once we have recorded all those votes we need to use a calculation to pull those results together and produce the results the returning officer is going to declare from.
"That process is taking longer than anticipated in some of the centres and some returning officers have decided because of the long wait that the staff and the candidates are experiencing that they are going to ask staff and candidates to go home while we resolve the issue."

A shambles. Not all DRS's fault, but they (by their own admission) appear partly to blame.

I pretty much agree with you tuffbet.

I too have been waiting for improved prospects for a chance to sell out at a reasonable price. I was hoping this would be when all the additional work came in for the Scottish Elections but it looks like they will need all this additional income to keep their heads above water at present.

I have been watching for a sign that prospects had improved to the extent that it might be worth buying back in.

I may be wrong but the phrasing of today's announcement doesn't bode well for the actual results ie ..."expenditure of unbudgeted costs pursuing new business"

I've seen that type of wording often enough before and it almost always heralds worse than anticipated news 'unbudgeted" is particularly worrying is it not a major if not the major function of a managment team to get the budgeting right?.

Hope for the sake of existing shareholders I am wrong but the risk /reward balance just doesn't look right at this point.

DRS Data & Research Services PLC
01 February 2006

DRS Data & Research Services plc ("DRS")

Acquisition of Peladon Software Inc

The Board of DRS is pleased to announce that it has entered into an agreement to
acquire Peladon Software Inc for a total consideration of $4,865,000
(£2,748,000).

DRS has been a market leader in the data capture arena for more than 35 years.
Its expertise in high volume and specialist data capture projects has been
established through the design and manufacturing of scanning equipment, forms
printing, and software services. The acquisition of Peladon brings ownership of
the DocXP range of software products and introduces a wealth of new expertise to
the company in the areas of ICR (intelligent character recognition) and
automated document processing. These products and services not only complement
existing DRS markets but extend its capabilities into new business markets such
as financial services and banking where significant sales opportunities have
already been created in the U.S.

Peladon's intellectual property in the field of automated form and document
processing is particularly relevant to organisations in insurance, financial
services, marketing, banking, government and many other businesses where large
quantities of printed and electronic documents are processed on a regular basis.
The company's business solutions enable organisations to reduce operating costs,
increase processing speed and obtain higher accuracy for their transactions. The
size of the worldwide market for data processing software of this kind was
estimated to be in excess of £1billion in 2005.

Peladon's strength comes from its people as well as its highly developed
products and services. Joint teams in the UK and US have many years of
experience in the document processing environment and provide a professional
services group (PSG) to understand customers' requirements and implement
solutions. These teams will significantly enhance the ability of DRS to provide
solutions for its varied international markets.

The three principal vendors who held 93.5% of the share capital of Peladon
Software Inc have agreed to remain with the business as directors and officers
on the Board of Peladon Software Inc.

Peladon software Inc, has its offices in San Diego, California and has a fully
owned UK subsidiary, Peladon Software Limited, with offices in Andover, Hants.
The consideration of $4,865,000 (£2,748,000) is payable in cash, $4,250,000
(£2,401,000) is payable on completion and the balance of $615,000 (£347,000) is
subject to an earn-out arrangement based on a share of the Peladon Group's
operating profit in the post acquisition period to 31 December 2007.

In the year ended 31 December 2005, the Peladon Group's provisional unaudited
management accounts reported a loss of $9,000 (£5,000) on turnover of $1,848,000
(£1,044,000) with gross assets of $644,000 (£364,000) as at 31 December 2005.

Peladon Software Inc was established in January 2005, when it acquired Peladon
Software Limited, established in 1998 to create highly efficient data and
document capture software. Having successfully developed products in the UK, the
American market potential for them was identified and Peladon Software Inc was
set up to embark on expanding its sales in the US. With the aid of financing
from DRS, the Peladon Group has opportunities to expand in 2006 and 2007.
