27/11/2015 09:56 | Yeah this time last year there was a 10 min "que" to even access their website although still not sure whether they did that deliberately | tim 3
27/11/2015 09:51 | I did buy a bargain laptop first thing this morning and pcworld website was working fast! | jondev
27/11/2015 08:55 | Initial feedback slower start instore and no delays on web. | tim 3
26/11/2015 22:14 | The way they normally work on days like this is to buy a large quantity of certain lines from manufacturers at prices they are confident are market beating and will sell out. This will be spread across the different product groups,TV,laptops,wa The challenge set for the managers is to switch sell to more profitable lines and/or sell know how or other "add ons" to make the deals profitable. Apparently last year some of the key deals were leaked to the competition hence the late release of prices. They will "tweak" the deals when they see what the competition are up to. They are cleverly using the "black tag" event which has been on all week to try and spread the buying over as longer period as possible. | tim 3
26/11/2015 22:02 | Why doesn't a retailer shoot the fox of other retailers and do a Grey Thursday the day before Black Friday? cut the prices the day before and sit out Friday. Think they'd do better. Perhaps DC are going to glean all the prices off the internet tonight then undercut them by a fiver? CR | cockneyrebel
26/11/2015 20:19 | Well theres a lot of unhappy staff out there. Some managers expected to be at work from 4am till 9pm. Staff from 6 till 8 many stores opening at 6am. Apparently the deals are being so closely guarded that the tickets wont be downloaded till 5am tomorrow making longer hours for staff.(in the past they have been downloaded the day before so they can be put in place when the store closes taking some of the workload of the next day) Personally I think its ridiculous it does not generate more sales just concentrates them into a smaller time scale. Bad for customers who have to fight their way through the crowds and certainly dont see the stores at their best. Bad for retailers lower margins. Bad for staff anyone who has worked retail at Christmas particularly electrical will know how challenging it is anyway without this additional workload. Hopefully others will follow Asda's lead. | tim 3
26/11/2015 17:29 | Interims 16th December. Good news on the way ? | mikepompeyfan
26/11/2015 17:28 | What's all this talk of black Friday? Black weekend more like. | buoycat
26/11/2015 16:17 | Looks like there is only that period in May/June that beats this level now. Closing in on those broker targets of over £5. | gerdmuller
24/11/2015 16:29 | Read the ao. thread. Plenty of explanation there for their poor share price performance today. Always jam tomorrow with them, compared to jam today with dc. imo. | mikepompeyfan
24/11/2015 11:03 | Not sure its that great AO shares down over 10%. | tim 3
24/11/2015 07:21 | Great trading update from AO. - good read across perhaps. CR | cockneyrebel
24/11/2015 01:25 | A lot of press saying public losing interest in black friday will be interesting to see how it pans out. I suspect it may be less popular instore but additional sales on line will make up for it. I mean who really wants to spend time fighting it out in overcrowded stores when you can do it online. | tim 3
22/11/2015 16:55 | There's a story in The Sunday Times about Argos being in trouble and going the same way as Comet, Phones4U etc. While that would be very good for us l think it's unlikely unfortunately. "Tony Shiret, an analyst at Haitong Research, warned last month that government cuts to tax credits would squeeze HRG’s low-income customers, while its thin margins would be further threatened by the introduction of the living wage. “The unwinding of the Argos story leaves us needing to be persuaded that it is not staring into an abyss,” he wrote, asking whether HRG may become “the next Comet/MFI/Woolworths | mikepompeyfan
22/11/2015 14:33 | Apparently massive preparation for black Friday . Management being asked to work from 4am to 9pm in some cases. Its a necessary evil but not great for the business as Seb said you get huge uplift on the day but other times are quieter and of course margins take a hit. The skill is maximising sales from those that come in selling up and building on the momentum to stretch it out for the nest few days or so ,something they did pretty well last year. | tim 3
16/11/2015 13:30 | A fortnight to Cyber Monday | cockneyrebel
14/11/2015 16:44 | DC, - Top Christmas stocking stuffer: | cockneyrebel
04/11/2015 10:13 | Chart looking very positive here imo, especially after that strong recent trading update - results in Dec: "Overall, a very good start to the trading year but I am aware that there is plenty of the year left to go. In the next quarter we will anniversary the startlingly successful iPhone6 launch, the consolidation of the mobile market and, later in the year, an extraordinary Black Friday. Nevertheless, our whole team believes that the business is in very good shape to have another successful year, and I look forward to giving a further update at the interims in December." iPhone 6 seems to have gone well recently imo. CR | cockneyrebel
21/10/2015 12:12 | "A resurgent Dixons has helped impact the first half" Good news for us. | mikepompeyfan
05/10/2015 10:56 | Sp only dropped in line with general market sentiment imo. I have no doubt the interims and trading update on 16th Dec will be good and underline the potential here. | mikepompeyfan
05/10/2015 09:53 | Latest broker estimates still targeting between 510 and 530p. So who am I to disagree with that. | gerdmuller |
