Barring a summer correction, that dip below a fiver last week might be your lot.

A new low below 497 would be a worry.

RCTurner u may be right, the current downward channel from about 5.80, appears to be intact.

It's not Chile. The earthquake only happened a couple of days ago, whilst the price has been falling longer than that. Interestingly Amlin is less affected. Don't know why really.

Cheers,
Steve.

It might affect sentiment but events tend to smooth themselves out. As for the Do-good King Canute Brigade who don't like the idea of preferential rates to attract new business; what's reduced for some (ie existing customers) will be increased for others. If you've assets to insure then you've the sense to shop around.

Chile effect?

Exactly steve - CGL needs a good disaster or three to boost the share price.

Let's get this clear - Catlin do not do pensions! Price fall is likely due to disaster related premium rates coming down, in the absence of too many disasters.

Cheers,
Steve.

Anyone got any ideas why CGL is down over 2% this morning making it one of the biggest fallers in the FTSE250 when the market generally is up slightly? I haven't seen any news or 'sell' tips etc.

Or.... looking to test the top of downtrend since end year?

No reason to think why.. but it looks like it on the chart!

No, what I mean is that the dividend is PAID on 20 March, so some folks re-invest their dividend by buying ahead of that on delayed settlement contracts.

Pushing up quite nicely today. Dividend pay day 20 March, T+10 buys ahead of that event??
