Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte is mulling a complete ban on mining in the country, accusing mining companies of funding efforts to destabilize the current administration, The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported March 14.Duterte, however, did not cite specific acts of destabilization or names behind the alleged subversion. He also claimed the mining operators were conspiring to replace him with someone who would do their bidding.Meanwhile, the Chamber of Mines of the Philippines denied the involvement of its members in any such attempts against the administration."Our member companies vehemently deny any involvement in any destabilization efforts against the administration," the chamber said."We condemn such efforts and reaffirm our commitment to work with this administration, and to follow the law and the constitution," it added.Duterte demanded the mining companies provide explanations of their activities' impact, including polluted bodies of water. He once again reiterated his support for environment secretary Regina Lopez's nomination, adding that it might be "worthwhile" for Lopez to enforce a moratorium on mining, considering the environmental damage the industry has caused.Lopez is among the cabinet members who have yet to be confirmed by Congress. The government's crackdown has seen it periodically issue suspension orders for mines whose operations threaten the environment.- See more at:

No end in sight for strike at BHP Billiton copper mine in Chile

By Jon Yeomans
15 March 2017 • 5:10pm

A bitter strike at the world’s largest copper mine looks set to drag on with the two sides further away from agreement than ever.

Workers at the Escondida mine in Chile downed tools at the start of February in a row over the terms of a new three-year contract.

The mine, majority owned and operated by FTSE 100 giant BHP Billiton, turned out more than one million tonnes of the red metal last year, and its stoppage has boosted global copper prices.

Earlier this week workers burnt the mining company’s latest pay offer in a show of defiance, claiming that the strike had already cost BHP and its partners in the venture, which include Rio Tinto, $712m (£583m) in lost sales.

The Escondida No.1 Union, which has 2,500 members, vowed to “strike for an indefinite period”, and plans to launch the second phase of its financing plan, which could keep the stoppage going until April. According to some estimates, the union has built up a war chest of $390,000 to fund workers through the strike, and has built makeshift camps outside the mine.

A downturn in the copper market in recent years has forced BHP and other miners to slash costs. The Anglo-Australian group claims that even with its revised pay offer Escondida’s workers are among the best paid in Chile.

Under Chilean law the mining company is now free to negotiate individually with workers as the first 30 days of the strike have elapsed. The action has reached day 34, but progress on a deal is thought to be minimal.

Marcelo Castillo, president of the Minera Escondida company, said the mine was already looking at ways of restarting production. The miner may be able to draw on temporary workers to supplant union staff.

“Burning that invitation to dialogue in front of workers was a sign that they [the union] don’t want to advance in the negotiation," Mr Castillo told reporters in the nearby town of Antofagasta.

Surprised to see the small drop when I woke up this evening ready for night shift. Not complaining though as awaiting funds for 125k shares to take me to 2.5m

Copper heading back to 2.7 soon?

Remember the Future, put some charts up on Twitter this morning and amazingly came up with the conclusion, "Asiamet Resources Ltd forms bullish "Continuation Wedge" chart pattern."
We all believe it will go up when the next results come in but until then the share price could go anywhere.

Countdown well and truly on to the BKM resource upgrade.

I am expecting an update prior to the event on the 30th detailing the metallurgy test results that were deferred from November / December to end of Q1.

These will have a fundamental impact on the project economics and add tens of millions to the BKM NAV if they are as I expect them to be.

Every chance of double figures here by end of April....

A 5 million share buy looks like a strong vote of confidence in the company, management and future share price rise IMO. Just wish I had more liquidity to buy more, though happy with a 1 million share holding :-)

So, you can't just magic 5m shares, it would take time to fill that order, so has it taken a while to fill it over the last week or so and it's just completed now and been posted? Or is it the end of a large sell and only completed today when the price ticked back up to that range?

Edit: I can't see any sells at that price today...
