The UK economy has major structural problems that can not simply be blamed on Brexit. Our current account defecit is shocking, the worst in the OECD, unsustainable and our currency was overvalued, no matter how much we remember the glory days of £1 = $2. This is due to a number of factors not easily remedied and successive governments have made it worse.

Brexit has been the trigger, but this reset would have happened one day and the longer it was left, the far worse it would have been.

To compound the issue and the fact GBP would depreciate anyway, the BoE made it even worse with an extra 100bn QE and reducing interests rate. They can blame their actions on mitigating the "Brexit shock" all they like, but it was unnecessary. Brexit gave them the perfect excuse to do what all Governments and Central banks are trying to do - debase their currencies.

So although we may disagree on whether Brexit is right in the longterm or not, it looks like we all agree on how to protect yourself - Gold.

Buy local, holiday in the UK. Lots we can do to cope with this and staying positive is the start...no good talking the country down. IMO

Unfortunately this is just the starter as we have not got out of the EU yet. It could get much uglier when tariff hike is introduced and if and when £ get even weaker in a hard brexit scenario.

Blueball, what is so surprising about that. People should have thought it through when they cast the vote for brexit. Since the brexit vote, UK £ has depreciated vs $ and euro by about 20% so almost everything will eventually go up, as brexiters have correctly pointed out, this country imports far more than it exports.

Ironically, this will hit the hardest those Labour voters who seem to be the most responsible (or read Corbyn) for the brexit, as food, cloth and otehr essentials will be the most affected as they are either imported from Europe priced in euro or from far east priced in $.

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/37652467?client=safariWith the fall in the value of sterling, some economists now predict that inflation will hit 3% by the end of next year as imports of products such as food and fuel become more expensive.

Thanks for that jailbird. As the chinese middle classes become wealthier they are buying a higher grade stainless. Robert Freidland said 10 years ago that "mrs Wong wants a new wok". Maybe she wants a better wok now.

Useful reminder also of Ni at $50k. At that price BNC can make half a billion a year cash flow (US not Z$!!)
