26/9/2008 16:30 | LOL! No, this is a company with £250m of turnover making making £10m a year and it's got £5m in the bank. IT's ON A P/E OF ONE! | farsight
26/9/2008 16:28 | Wonder if insurers have stopped providing credit to those companies supplying alexon? In that case it will rapidly use its cash on trying to get stock. Last week two of Britain's biggest credit insurers, Euler Hermes and Atradius, had stopped providing new cover for firms supplying many small retailers and had cancelled some policies | whiterussians
26/9/2008 16:24 | P/E OF ONE! PROFITMAKING. NO DEBT. MONEY IN THE BANK. P/E OF ONE! | farsight
26/9/2008 16:24 | so was GEC marconi | whiterussians
26/9/2008 16:21 | No, this is a company with £250m of turnover making making £10m a year and it's got £5m in the bank. IT's ON A P/E OF ONE! | farsight
26/9/2008 15:57 | One year's life expectancy?: | whiterussians
26/9/2008 14:18 | MFI in deep trouble. Its the high rents and that will be bad news for AXN. | dumbarton2
26/9/2008 14:16 | Furniture maker goes to the wall... | dumbarton2
26/9/2008 14:13 | Even upmarket dress makers going to the wall... | dumbarton2
26/9/2008 14:08 | Bay trading losing money in first half and sales slump since dies not bode well. That cash in bank wont last long. Thje market does not like this one bit. One of M&S furniture manufacturers in administration this morning and rumour MFI going bust. Retailers and banks bad stocks at the moment. | dumbarton2
26/9/2008 14:01 | No probs she-ra. | farsight
26/9/2008 13:52 | Farsight - I wasnt saying I was having a punt on JJB I was just pointing out that JJB has much larger tangible assets.Neither am I saying JJB is a better bet than Alexon.Infact I think something dodgy has gone on there with JJB. | she-ra
26/9/2008 13:32 | Sorry she-ra, that's ancient history now. If you fancy a punt on JJB go ahead, but note that the weekend press can be cruel. | farsight
26/9/2008 13:18 | Farsight - JJB made £38 million in 2007 and in 2005 £62 million and has much larger and stronger assets.I think you are comparing the wrong companies. | she-ra
26/9/2008 13:06 | she-ra: crazy money men and media more like. I've always liked Bush actually. And Blair. Anyhow, if you take a look at the charts you see that JJB now rather resembles AXN. And if you look at the headline numbers and forget about debt or net cash, what you see is this: ......Marketcap now....Previous Profit JJB...110m.......... AXN...20m........... JJB would need to come down a whole lot more to match AXN. And I still wouldn't buy JJB even then. | farsight
26/9/2008 12:56 | Farsight - Im afraid we are now in the hands of those crazy Americans. It all hinges on whether they can get their 5h!t together.I never thought I would be on the side of GW Bush.Funny old world. | she-ra
26/9/2008 12:52 | I don't know she-ra. I took a quick look and saw big debts and a loss. That's not good in the current climate. A lot of companies in the same boat have taken a tumble. They've gone down and stayed down, and the weekend press can be cruel. Tanners: I have no crystal ball, and no inside info. I'm just guessing. But my experience has served me well. A penny or two is neither here nor there. I still confidently predict that this is the bottom, and this will end the day blue. | farsight
26/9/2008 12:00 | Farsight - Right now this looks a safer bet than JJB.What the F... is going on there? Is there something dodgy going on?JJB is a pretty solid company. | she-ra
26/9/2008 11:38 | Farsight - 26 Sep'08 - 11:31 - 619 of 619 I confidently predict that this is the bottom. It won't go any lower. In fact I confidently predict it will be blue today. How do I know this? Just put it down to experience. Personally I reckon trying to confidently predict anything short term in these markets is impossible, but perhaps your experience includes a crystal ball! Unless you've got some inside on some trades that are in the pipeline, then you're simply guessing......but time will tell! | tanners

26/9/2008 11:17 | The net cash position that keeps being quoted is a fallacy. For a start there's a tax liability to pay, and secondly but more importantly credtitors are well in excess of debtors. Alexon are doing well to remain profitable, and unless things worsen dramatically are unlikely to go under in the near future, but with shrinking profits and little on the balance sheet to back it up I wouldn't be investing at this stage. Each to their own tho! | tanners
26/9/2008 11:10 | Farsight - Dolcis went under and they sold women's shoes and that was when the economy was only just starting to go wrong. This idea that Alexon has this special force field called 'women' is ridiculous.Lot's of women are independent types, owning their own house and paying their own mortgage so they have woories just like men of paying their mortgages and job security.Women arent stupid,if they feel a need to buy clothes to cheer themselves up they will more likely shop down a notch or two. | she-ra
26/9/2008 10:59 | Even better value. I reckon the FD will be buying now. It's halved in three months, so it's going to be personal. | farsight |
