Mesurenguy, I think you are absolutely correct in post 578, perhaps now is a good time to add.

Aldermore is being hit by a major downturn in the banking sector. Challenger banks do not have the same legacy problems that afflict the traditional banks although they are also exposed to bad debt risk. The current price neither reflects the fundamentals or potential so this will be a good buy at the current - or maybe even lower price - on a longer term risk/reward basis.

Paragon issued a confident trading update this morning, not complacent about BTL leading up to 2021 but not unduly worried either and making plans to adapt. I don't hold them just thought relevant to ALD.

nurdin - the trouble is that ALD is profitable - Metro is trading in the mad zone where the greater your losses the greater the perceived opportunity. Metro is making losses of £40m/year!!!

Figures reported today by the Council of Mortgage Lenders have shown gross mortgage lending for the UK on the rise overall. Over £220bn was lent in 2015, the highest since 2008 and an 8% increase over 2014.

Challenger bank Metro to float for £2bn...that is at 3x book value.ALD (mcap £700m) are trading at 1.35x if I am not mistaken. Hopefully the float will trigger some level of rerating!

The Finance Director bought at 210p Dec 10th if my memory serves me right which indicates some kind of support level at that time would it not?

Wasn't really that quick a rise, it was trading within a £2.40 - £3 range, fundamentally and given the growth and possibility of future growth it didn't seem expensive at £3.

Maybe it should have never been to 290p...quick rises are always suspicious....

I thought these were cheap when I started buying in the £2.40's, have bought more since and now average around £2.25, I'm going to hold through short / medium term carnage as I still think these will come good, the fall from around £2.90 in November is staggering.

Me thinks they should have acted quicker, they are not being transparent but then again what bank has!

BTL mortgage enquiries last 3 mths have apparently been their strongest yet, that's general not ALD specific. When I spoke with them pre xmas, they said they wanted to get more facts and figures before they issued a statement rather than cobble one together, they thought it would be possible by March. They also said directors thought the (then) share price was ludicrously cheap hence their buying. Ironic that it's even more ludicrous now:) FWIW I don't think I was lied to.

Anyway it's wait on the outside for me now for a while, don't like the market overall.
