04/1/2008 14:02 | Small tick up. Wonder if we'll see 120p by the end of the day. Glad I'm in oil stocks - the rest of the market looks dire! Log | logica2me
04/1/2008 13:17 | Just had a mail from a source in the company overseeing the manufacture and performing the installation of the Okoro Production flatform. It is this platform which is being hooked up to the FPSO. At present, their offshore crew is due to be mobilised "early February" which to my mind looks to agree with the following: "Afren PLC said it is on track to achieve first oil in the first quarter of 2008 and production of 15,000-20,000 barrels per day in mid 2008 at its Okoro Setu project in Nigeria." I was secretly hoping for installation a little sooner but as others rightly pointed out, this would have meant early release of the jack-up. Great start to the new year. Sludge | sludgesurfer

04/1/2008 12:53 | Recent price rise is not unexpected. FTSE100 up 55 so far this year, whilst FTSE250 down about 180 Suggests to me that people spent Christmas period revising their portfolio's and moving money to where they see 'value' or safer havens in 2008. If you read the press, its all about getting out of Commercial Property, Banks, Retail etc. So where has the money gone? Oil & Gas and Mining, which surprise surprise make up a big chunk of the FTSE100. If investing in Oil, makes some sense to pick a large company, Shell, BP, Tullow etc and then put a chunk into smaller highly speculative oilers. Any decent research will have thrown up Afren, Matra, Timan etc, so no surprise seeing these all doing well so far this year. Long term holders of Afren know there's jam today and cavier tomorrow. Well done Leeson (but I hate your charts), Jack Brent etc for being long term holders and sticking to your guns over the last year. Personally I'm close to being 100% up on my first purchases of Afren and see this going much much higher over next 3 years. | referencepoint
