01/2/2017 10:03 | I found the patent details for the Meridian mqa patent and read it all but this was about 18 months - 2 years ago. If my memory serves me correctly I searched for 'Meridian mqa patent'. Just tried that again and more very interesting info appears than I will be able to read this morning. The link to the patent pdf is mentioned but I have to go to a garden centre. Will have another look when I get back. There was a very good explanation of how mqa works and I remember a good comment and explanation from a patent lawyer as well. ...must dash | 11smith
01/2/2017 09:56 | Hausofmaus : Thanks. As the year progresses we will no doubt learn more. Do you think Tidal is being supported directly by MQA.? | pet lover
01/2/2017 09:27 | PL: Nice idea, but would need more 'evidence' than reading between the lines here to be convinced on this. Service in statement could be anything, other statements are just general. My expectation is that we'll see services launched for our existing partners, Onkyo, Technics, etc. as their devices come to market. Mobile World Congress at end Feb another likely source for announcements too. | hausofmaus
01/2/2017 09:20 | Tidal up to date valuation and customer numbers. 23/01/17 Tidal, the music streaming service Jay Z bought from Swedish parent company Aspiro for $56 million in 2015, may finally be turning the corner. Despite burning through three C.E.O.s in its first year, and lingering questions about its subscriber numbers, Tidal has sold a 33 percent stake to Sprint at a whopping $600 million valuation, according to multiple media reports. As part of the deal, Tidal will become available to Sprint’s 45 million customers and let the companies partner on artist exclusives, according to Billboard, which first reported the news. Sprint’s $200 million investment marks a major vote of confidence from the telecom, which reportedly engaged in partnership talks with Tidal around its launch, though it said it had not invested at the time. It’s unclear whether Sprint users will get additional Tidal perks as a result of the investment, like receiving artist exclusives before other Tidal customers, or if using Tidal will not count against customer data caps for users without unlimited data plans. It’s also unclear how many subscribers Tidal really has. As of March 2016, one year after Tidal’s launch, Jay Z said the company had 3 million subscribers—fa Even so, Tidal has one major asset that sets it apart from streaming competitors like Spotify and Rdio (R.I.P.): access to artist exclusives that are unavailable anywhere else. Tidal, which has marketed itself as a platform for artists, by artists, is a majority performed-owned company that purports to pay double the royalties of other services. Jay Z has leveraged that pitch, along with his own unique celebrity profile in the industry, to bring on board a number of his friends, including Rihanna and Kanye West, and his wife, Beyoncé. When Tidal launched two years ago, other artists like Daft Punk, Arcade Fire, Coldplay, Alicia Keys, and Madonna also lent their support. In exchange for becoming co-owners of the music platform, they agreed to release their music first and exclusively through Tidal. The company’s two-dozen artist-owners will still be part-owners after the Sprint deal | pet lover
01/2/2017 08:14 | Morning all. Might like to see my post this morning on the 7dig MQA thread. | pet lover
01/2/2017 08:10 | 1/ Half year results 19th September 2016 We have also seen strong progress in the provision of high resolution audio in the first half of the year, signing our first contract using the high resolution audio technology, MQA. The contract will see us develop desktop and mobile applications and handle rights holder reporting, end user management and payment processing for a customer which, it is hoped, will launch an MQA service later this year. 2/ 3/ 7Digital trading statement 17/01/17 The Group continues to make particular progress in Hi-Res audio with its strategy being further validated at the recent Consumer Electronics Show ("CES") in Las Vegas. The record industry and hardware manufacturers - including Sony and Samsung - came together at CES to highlight the benefits of higher quality digital sound. In particular, the MQA streaming technology which 7digital has pioneered received significant attention. 4 /. Simon Cole, Chief Executive of 7digital, said: "The second half of our financial year 2016 was always an important time for 7digital and I am pleased that we delivered on our commitment to reach operating profit by the year end and continued to make good progress in line with our stated strategy. The New Year has started well and we remain confident that the Group will be profitable at the operating level for the full year 2017." An explanation of the articles above by myself. The 2016 half year results :September 2016: reported that a new His Res streaming service was due to be launched by 7Digital by the end of 2016. No service was launched in 2016 but just one week later at CES 2017 Tidal goes live with the worlds first MQA streaming subscription service. Then in this months 7digital trading statement MQA is again highlighted. Moreover shareholders are informed that the new year has started well. My Conclusion: The Hi Res streaming service start up referred to by 7 digital in the September 2016 results and launched in the first week of January is TIDAL. If I am correct which I think I am then the excitement has arrived a few months earlier than I had previously thought it would. | pet lover
