Johnson & Johnson to Settle States' Talc Probe for $700 Million, Bloomberg Reports

--Johnson & Johnson has reached a tentative $700 million agreement with more than 40 states to settle an investigation into claims that it failed to warn of possible health risks in the marketing for its talc-based baby powder, Bloomberg reports, citing unnamed sources.

--The deal would avert potential litigation claiming the healthcare-product company hid links between the talc in its powder and various cancers, the unnamed sources told Bloomberg.

--J&J and representatives for state attorneys general are still working out the details of the resolution but have agreed on the settlement amount, according to the report.

--The company, which has already been sued by Mississippi and New Mexico, said in October that 42 states and the District of Columbia had launched a joint investigation into the marketing of its talcum powder products, according to Bloomberg.
