Springfield Commonwealth Academy (SCA), a top International
Boarding and Day School for grades 6-12, has been acquired by new
investors, sparking major campus renovations and academic
enhancements.
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., July 11,
2024 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- On Wednesday, May 22, 2024, Springfield Commonwealth
Academy (SCA), a top-rated International Boarding and Day School
for grades 6-12, was acquired by a group of visionary investors
committed to propelling the institution into a new era of
excellence and innovation. This strategic acquisition marks a
period of transformation for SCA, beginning with significant
renovations and investments to advance the school's scholastic
offerings and restore the historic campus in Springfield.
"Our new investors share our commitment to
excellence and are providing the resources needed to enhance our
programs and facilities, ensuring that SCA continues to prepare
students for the challenges of higher education and beyond," said
Angelene Huang.
The SCA campus, formerly known as MacDuffie School, has a rich
history dating back to the early 1900s. The buildings on campus are
known for their iconic Tudor Revival architecture. In June 2011, the campus on Ames Hill Drive was
devastated by a rare EF3 tornado. Following the tornado, the
MacDuffie School relocated, and the Springfield campus was acquired by local
businessman Mr. John Foley, who
launched Springfield Commonwealth Academy. In 2018, the school was
purchased by a Chinese investor, but the pandemic created many
challenges, including a decline in enrollment and neglect of the
campus facilities.
In May 2023, Angelene Huang, known for her success turning
around the New York Military Academy, took on a new mission to
acquire and revitalize Springfield Commonwealth Academy. Huang's
vision for SCA includes the restoration of the historic campus
architecture and rebranding the private school to provide premier
education to the local community while attracting international
students to Springfield.
Huang has brought in a strong leadership team, including
Beth Moriarty as Head of School,
former Director of Admissions and Marketing at the New York
Military Academy and CEO of Strategic Marketing & Consulting,
and Stephen Morton as Business and
Finance Director, former Chief Investment Officer at Into Capital
and former COO at the Blackstone Group.
"We are incredibly excited about this acquisition and the
opportunities it brings for our students and the entire SCA
community," said Angelene Huang,
President of Springfield Commonwealth Academy. "Our new investors
share our commitment to excellence and are providing the resources
needed to enhance our programs and facilities, ensuring that SCA
continues to prepare students for the challenges of higher
education and beyond."
