Most Brits will take extra hygiene measures and try to continue on as normal. We never react like this with a major flu outbreak.

In the club I run the ages are from 50 to 95, with the majority over 70. Only two have stayed away from the three times a week opening days and the attitude has been that they will keep coming as long as possible and if they catch it then tough luck. Many of them lived in London during the Blitz and are not going to give in to this hysteria. I would like to mention how good their neighbours have been and also the owners of the hall, who have told us they will not charge rent if we decide to close.

If the virus kills as many oldies and infirm that's suggested it should ease the burden on the NHS and the pension funds.

Your '"Underspending on the NHS." is nonsense Roy it's gobbled up our resources at an unsustainable rate since its inception.

Aneurin Bevan said that it would sort out the main problems of the time TB, diphtheria, polio etc. and would then become self financing.

He would turn in his grave now if he saw that on the one hand we're spending millions an fertility treatment and on the other aborting a hundred thousand unborn babies every year.

Talking of research and the latest hot topic.
There have been 6k deaths from coronavirus in the world from a population of 8bn, that is one in every million. China, where the virus has peaked and now has very few cases, the chance of dying from coronavirus was one in 500k. The area that I live has had two reported cases out of 270k people. This has been blown up out of all proportion with the media mostly responsible for the panic buying and under spending on the health service responsible for the government panic in keeping those in their seventies etc. cooped up for three months, probably causing more deaths from boredom.
