Thanks ltcm1.

For the benefit of the board, and to posters willing to discuss Thatcher with me, I apologise. I will try to moderate my views in the future or perhaps best to keep them to myself even though it is difficult .

BTW thick old Minerve doesn't realise that "Safe Harbour" is not in WPCT's portfolio. Should he be left to post unsupervised? He never does his homework. Idle old sod! LOL

Anyone remember this post from minerve ?

"I have been in this business over 20 years. I can reassure you Woodford is up there with the best there is, no question. Of course, investing is not a game of perfection, it never will be, it is a game of managing risk with a view to long-term growth and not many will do it better than Woodford. I am a great admirer of him as a professional and as an individual. His views and attitudes pretty much mirror mine and his willingness to be open and transparent is second to none.

If I had to hand my money over to someone in trust for the future, he would be the first, even before family members. Woodford is no different now than he was decades ago. Solid 100% professional with untouched integrity."

Also, from the EIF portfolio list for July he has Autolus listed twice.

29 Autolus Healthcare 1.02%
56 Autolus Healthcare 0.47%

Maybe a clear explanation here. Any takers?

So, back to Woodford. He has invested £Xmillion in the company called Safe Harbour - which is effectively just a shell with an idea. Reminds me of the old OFEX days. He obviously has used clients' funds to buy in at IPO. c25% of said shell.

So, even though the amount will be small comparitive to total Woodford funds, he is exposing clients' money to a very high-risk shell in both IFF and EIF.

But it gets worse, apparently the CEO is giving himself a full bonus for really just executing the IPO so far, and the chairman is getting £200K for overseeing a shell!

And guess who the chairman is? All very incestuous business IMO and sometimes makes you wonder whether these less than 'arm's length' dealings are damaging freedom of objective thoughts.

Do you really want a fund manager to support 'money for old rope' behaviour? We are a very long way from a meritocracy here. Is there only me that cares? It's your money after all.

From the Safe Harbour thread:

"Cripes! Seen the Directors rem on this ? CEO getting full bonuses for not buying anything. Chairman getting £200k a year for overseeing a cash shell!!!"

Utter scum - by all means disagree with her policies (which btw brought long-lasting prosperity to this country and others that followed suit, so much so that Blair/Brown etc all lived off of those riches) but to be so evil to the person (especially once deceased) is utterly vile

I don't agree with JC/SNP leadership et al but I would not cheer their deaths

You need to seek help

Unemployment was not down to Thatchers policies.
Financial mismanagement before her time was one of the reasons.
Inflation reached over 20% and the IMF had to be called in for a rescue loan.
IMF demanded reduced government spending, including the closing of hospital wards.
Industry, after strike after strike and poor investment was crippled.

We forget what a sick economy we had in the late 1970's.
Thatcher was a saviour, but she did have the unexpected tailwind of North Sea Oil.
That helped and it is something that her worshippers never mention.

I see Argentina and Venezuela are now struggling with hyper inflation.
They need a new Maggie, but the cure will not be painless.

"Minerve by all means protest at the time but at the time of her funeral she had been out of office for 20 years."

Some people were unemployed for just as long and sometimes even longer.

There were casualties from the Thatcher era.
But on balance the privatisation programme was a success.
Nationalised companies were bloated and inefficient.

Some of us remember all of those strikes before she came to power.
Nothing could be passed into law unless the big unions agreed it after the usual meeting at number 10.
After she came to power she never invited the union chiefs into Downing Street, and it has never happened since.
Seems odd now, looking back on it, many thought she was inviting disaster by not recognising that the true power in this country was with the unions.

Strange times, but maybe we have now gone the other way. Super rich do not pay much tax, and CEO's get paid disgustingly high pay packets.
The swamp needs clearing again.

Anyway it wasn't just her, the whole Cabinet were behind those policies...

Maggie won 3 elections.
There are a lot of quiet, secret tories out there.
The yobbery and aggression of the people that hate her drive the quiet ones underground.

I think in the end the same is true of the Brexit debate to some extent.
This autumn we shall see the usual debates on question time.
Very loud, ill mannered, angry Brexiteers shouting down quiet well mannered remainers.

Maggie is hated because she crushed the beloved miners, Scargill and the trade union movement.
She seemed a little crazy at he end, but for the most part she did a great job.

I do share her politics - we could do with her right now

But look at the vile behaviour of the left - they preach respect and equality etc and then come out with a song like that on her death

In reality it is reflective of the scum they in fact are
