Still no news. This is the latest tweet on the topic I can find:

bigboyblue: The situation is too fluid. Anything can happen and probably will. No point (as yet) in them saying anything until May when they have to report properly.

I'm trying to put myself in the position of the Board here. They must be very very busy at the moment and I'm sure the picture is changing on a daily basis making it difficult to give forward looking guidance. If I'm right, Wey won't want to have to give trading updates every week or two, as the previous one becomes outdated. I would expect something soon along the lines of 'revenue and profits are expected to be materially in excess of the most recent guidance'. I'm no expert, but I believe that would fulfil their regulatory obligations until the next scheduled update in mid May. Views?

Someone is backing up the truck. 18.7p to buy. In a few weeks when market has had chance to digest this may be 25p. GLA

Or people locking in some profit?

Sold mine to have cash for distressed blue chips now or later. It has been a good ride up.

Will be back. Chart says 10p to me now, but may well bounce.

Just a viewpoint.

G.

And it looks like it is the bounce...

garth: Exactly. That was my point. There is a lot up in the air at present - cant really assume anything for a while. I guess some iGCSE subjects can be sat at home - the time limit really stops too much cheating. Especially if made multiple choice on tight time (like IT contract staff have to sit to get a job - this format already exists for IT).

Well, looks like it is on the rise again folks.

Its only private schools that take iGCSEs anymore. They are not permissible on school league tables.

Now, there is a question as to whether UK students in mainstream year 11 might want to take them. The question is, where?

Absence of league tables this year makes it attractive. But Wey doesnt offer the chance to sit, it simple tutors. you would need an examination centre.

Working in Wuhan previously WEY have now built up some experience of what needs to be done. I think they will be helping some LEAs going forward.

Perhaps some aspect of the A levels / GCSCs might be some form of Internet Exam or tests. Still very early days. Interesting to see if iGCSEs are cancelled too.

From web: Will Cambridge International exams go ahead following the UK government announcement about school exams in England? (NEW - Updated 18 March)

Yes. Cambridge International exams – including Cambridge IGCSE, Cambridge O Level, Cambridge International AS & A Level, Cambridge AICE Diploma – are separate from the exams mentioned by the UK government today. Cambridge International exams will go ahead outside the UK in countries where schools are open or exams can be held safely.

For schools in England that take Cambridge International exams, we are working with the UK government to understand more about their intentions. We will provide more information to schools as soon as possible.

Net,

They may well have contacted LEA's.

There are more pressing concerns for the government immediately, but going forwards it would be good for Wey to offer out to LEA schools and academies directly.

I haven’t seen any marketing either tbh. That said, would hope there may not need to be any. They ought to be in contact with local authorities / schools directly. More b2b than b2c. How many teachers can you train to use the platform while setting up the pupil accounts pls? Unprecedented times / demand. In a few weeks any available online supply whether good or mediocre may be fully utilised. Time will tell I guess

One would hope that they would. But I don't see any evidence of marketing that beyond a statement on their website.

I have seen evidence of the marketing A21.

Garth - Training teachers to use their platform is exactly what they’ll be doing. There’s been a note on the WEY website for around 3 weeks stating this. They’ve been preparing for the event of school closures for weeks. Here it is, tipping point time. How many licences can they get for the platform!

One Hour Ago (from Guardian):

Further decisions will be taken 'imminently' on schools

Johnson pays tribute to teachers, and thanks them for their work in keeping schools open. He says further decisions will be taken “imminently221; on schools, that will square the circle of stopping the spread of the disease, while wanting to relief the pressure on the NHS.

Interesting article in this morning’s on-line FT: “Coronavirus has been a bonanza for Asian online education companies” including some stunning growth statistics.

I guess the key questions remain Monetisation and Permanence - IMO the trend is unstoppable, CV will ultimately become just a historic blip on charts? tightfist

Vast numbers (A level and GCSE etc and global) will be doing some internet education this year and next. Some of these vast numbers will be going to WEY in some form (either teaching teachers or the pupils or both). Of course WEY will not be teaching the "vast" numbers themselves - they will be teaching a fraction of the vast. But we all know that even a tiny fraction of this 'vast' is a very large number.

I have no doubt that WEY will do well in the ultra short term, short term, medium term, longer term and long term. I have no doubt.

Its worth noting that the FTSE 100 has fallen about 30% and its tried to break that a few times and each time the FTSE gets support.

I can see that the virus might do 10-20% worth of economic damage so 30% (or so) does appear to be the floor. Worth thinking about when doing your calculations.

Despite all that, net, not everyone will want to spend £3k-£6k per annum extra for full curriculum per child. However, the points you raise are valid in principle.

In practice, the bigger the spread of home schooling becomes, the cheaper it will be per child, by necessity and economics, so not all the benefit goes to WEY.

Currently, while the crisis and its fallout is felt by the populations, there will also be a reluctance by individuals to spend. Clearly the governing states will need to stump up plenty of support if online schooling, some via WEY’s systems, is to be adopted on a wider scale.

Couldn’t agree more. InterHigh will be inundated with requests for support. As soon as teachers need to self isolate the system falls over. As if they won’t be asking to use the online platform and teach from home!

Providing access to the platform and training teachers to use it - now that is the land that Wey should be working very hard to grab right now. That is an entirely different model to asking schools to sign up students.
