I suppose so b,
However the price is only about 5% off those highs.
However, then it had outperformed the FTSE by a mile and now it is rising ahead of a rising FTSE.
I bought back in 08/09 so this all looks a bit like froth, but I was tempted when the recent falls hit nearly 09 levels.
I used to train engineers when it was Weir Strachan & Henshaw - the tranformation into Weir was seminal.
I'd still like to see job vacancies in North America, even though my portfolio rules don't allow me to increase!

phil, none of that filthy takeover talk - I've lost too many good companies that way!

My own view is that looking at a company purely through its balance sheet misses an awful lot and I aint selling WEIR - eva!
GLTA on the 27th.

WEIR still shows Stock on Loan above 20% despite something like a 20% rise over the last 3 months.
Surely the rise should have forced some shorters out?

27th Feb finals.
The cash flow figures are a first port of call - they'll include a disposal and acquisition.

6 european vacancies, still none in North America.

phil - I see they reported on the 29 Feb last year so, as you say,we'll get some news soon.

UBS upped their TP by 300p so I reckon this is the reason. But you never know.

broadwood, I know there is a trading statement due shortly and we have had a number of p+ broker upgrades, but could the takeover rumours be doing the rounds again?

edit: preliminary results due at the end of the month, not a trading statement

Remember this gem from APAD?

"Debt up to about a £billion over the next 3 years.
Price to free cash flow is horrid.
Don't envisage much of a rapidly increasing dividend stream:-(
1m shares printed.
next prelim date: 28/2
Slightest negative and a possible repeat of AGK, although WEIR's current PER is much less than AGK.
I guess that's what the shorters are betting on.
I would increase if there is negative news in Feb."

More translational impact than transactional
Also depends on hedging policy

Snatander - it is a good point, but that info is factored into the current share price. We are all wondering, I'm sure, what impact exchange rates will have on 2013 performance. Of course, the recent acquisition and other parts of the group, are based overseas and operating in overseas markets so exchange rates are presumiably not a factor until the profits are brought back to UK? Am I right?

The other worrying metric is jobs on offer.

13 Middle East (fancy being HSE officer in Iraq?)
0 North America.

Search:squaremiledata,xow98. About 4 days in arrears.

6 months ago there was 25% Stock on Loan and the share price is up 25% on the same period. So, there is something that I don't understand about the whole process.

FWIW I'm not so concerned about the shorts anymore, but they are consistently high and WEIR is about the sixth most shorted company at the moment.

Of the numbers I monitor it's the effect of capex on the cash flow that is worth watching.

Caterpillar "moving in" is just marketing.

I would like to see the share price hit ema(200) and will then increase my holding (even though it is 4.6% of my portfolio).

Strange share price movement today, given the recent trend, lack of news and yesterday's statement from China and it's impact on mining shares. Thoughts anyone?

The first three paragraphs say it;

Weir Group, the leading engineering company, says it is on track to deliver double digit profit growth this year.

It has reported that its global presence and diverse end market exposure, together with targeted cost reductions, has ensured that it is in a position to deliver full year 2012 profit before tax, amortisation and exceptional items in the range of £440m-£450m.

This is within the range of earlier expectations in July and in line with current market consensus. Conditions remained mixed across the Group's end markets, impacted by increasing global macro-economic uncertainty and resultant declines in certain commodity prices.

As anticipated, revenue and profit growth moderated in the third quarter as a result of the lower opening order book and reduced activity levels at SPM and Mesa. Group revenue and profits were ahead of the prior year quarter, benefiting from the impact of prior year acquisitions which continue to perform satisfactorily.

Group operating margins for the quarter were in line with both the prior year period and our expectations.

Reported order input for the Group in the third quarter was 8% down on the prior year and 15% lower on a like for like basis. As a result, reported order input for the 39 weeks increased by 2% (H1: up 8%) against the prior year period. On a like for like basis for the 39 weeks order input was 6% lower (H1: down 1%) with original equipment orders down 18% (H1: down 13%) and aftermarket orders up 6% (H1: up 11%).

I actually thought the IMS was pretty downbeat but, going by the share price reaction, it obviously wasn't as downbeat as everyone was expecting. Hopefully WEIR can now push on to make new recent highs but it's ability to do so will no doubt be greatly influenced by the how the wider markets react to the result of the US presidential election.
