27/9/2020 20:52 | Very interesting net curtains I think their sales must be booming ! | salver2
27/9/2020 19:31 | conde Naste (publishers) are BOOMING during covid. This is relevant because they print such titles as "House & Garden" in which WGB advertise a great deal (see many of my posts above) From article: Overall, the company’s new subscribers in the US in March and April are about double the same period last year, while new subscription orders for UK titles are up by 420% since the lockdown began on March 23 compared with the same period last year. Quite a big marketing campaign in "House and Garden" October Edition for William Morris wallpaper - with ACTUAL WALLPAPER SAMPLE inside the magazine. And article in conjunction with Ben Pentreath (interior design expert) explaining details They have tied it all up with Extinction Rebellion too ... Festival from 12-20 September (link given in the same edition of "House and Garden"): Its also on Twitter: | netcurtains
25/9/2020 07:49 | We've had a notification today that results will be on 14th October. | netcurtains
25/9/2020 07:49 | B&Q had huge jump in share price on results. | netcurtains
25/9/2020 07:19 | B&Q 62% jump in profits thanks to DIY boom article 2 days old (sorry been away) | netcurtains
23/9/2020 17:33 | I own some of these now. This is below NAV and made 14 GBpence in net income just a few years ago. I like under promoted stocks and this is a good one. There is a nice story developing here that could see it 1 bag and follow the path of LUCE. Chart should close the gap to 70p soon and the trading bottom should be behind us | hskuder1
23/9/2020 10:01 | Small line of stock at 55.9p before it steps into the 56s if anyone fancies a nab. I added recently so not in a position to buy today. US spend on home furnishings super strong in recent August data. First half might have sucked but that is the past and more working at home should mean short term demand up and faster renovation cycles. The latest Sanderson kids collection also looks great | studentinvestor13
22/9/2020 20:51 | Ben Pentreath Queens collection seems to be going down a treat after its launch a few days ago | studentinvestor13
22/9/2020 20:51 | Ben Pentreath Queens collection seems to be going down a treat after its launch a few days ago | studentinvestor13
22/9/2020 08:40 | Not sure what the furlough scheme was all about, everyone seems to be rolling in the cash, even if they saved on going out shopping and for leisure. | bookbroker
22/9/2020 08:17 | Kingfisher to repay furlough cash as DIY boom buoys profits UK retailer’s pre-tax profits beat forecasts as lockdowns prompt consumers to spend on their homes Current trading stonkingly strong | studentinvestor13
21/9/2020 22:01 | I understand what you are saying but Farrow and Ball are much heavier weighted to paint and they seem to be the go to brand of middle class and higher England.Im not really qualified to say whether direct to market would make sense for Walker Greenbank but their profits would surely be higher! Good write up on William Morris in country life by the way ! | salver2
21/9/2020 18:26 | salver2: disagree with you there, the choice DIY'er have is luxury paint or wallpaper - its same DIY'er. Where we potentially fall down (not sure) is f&b can sell direct to public, we dont - we're in hands of third parties. We can do a lot online but not everything - the difference is not between wallpaper and paint rather its the difference between direct sales or leaving it to retailers... | netcurtains
21/9/2020 08:55 | Even if we are down 5% in trading year over year at present it does not matter because the cost base should be down double digits. We could be back to 9p eps run rate next year and if that does not comfort you how about a net asset value >60% higher than here. Stonking buy | studentinvestor13
21/9/2020 08:53 | Farrow and ball more paint so not exactly that relevant | salver2
21/9/2020 07:15 | Farrow & Ball Luxury paint manufacturers: Davey said that Farrow & Ball is experiencing exceptionally strong top line performance so far this year and the company is "well into" double digit growth. And although there have been challenges in adapting, the result has been one of the most positive business periods in recent times for the company. they have the luxury of doing online sales themselves - alas WGB relies on retailers doing the online sales. So one suspects our growth not as high as Farrow & Ball but you never know - could be better than we think - I wish I knew. | netcurtains
21/9/2020 06:42 | We’ll see soon enough, but I hope you are correct. | bookbroker
21/9/2020 06:40 | John lewis of hungerford. Quoted business sustained for some months at record levels. Order intake markedly above prior year comparatives. WGB must be trading great! Any other beaten up and stupidly cheap names focused on housing you know of Net? | studentinvestor13
19/9/2020 11:38 | Wife agrees with me that booming DIY is good for WGB (wallpaper, paint and fabrics) From BBC: "Booming DIY": We're both not sure what percentage of WGB sales are to DIY market but we both assume its a great deal (we both, for example, are DIY fans). | netcurtains
18/9/2020 16:11 | StudentInvestor13: Just back from Liberty's... The ONS figures for August say a bit more than that: Figure 6: Household goods stores selling home improvement items recovered to above pre-pandemic levels, (the data includes paint, but one assumes its also true for wallpaper and fabrics - Liberty's have wallpaper and fabric sample books in the same section of the store) Liberty's have a large collection of William Morris wallpaper and fabrics in sample books on their forth floor. The store was quite busy and its cafe was open. They also have kitted out a section of the forth floor for their Christmas decoration department ... Santa is coming. | netcurtains
18/9/2020 12:28 | good to listen to net ONS data for August today "Spending for home improvements continued to rise in August as sales volumes within household goods stores increased by 9.9% when compared with February." | studentinvestor13
18/9/2020 09:40 | StudentInvestor13: My wife loves the company and would not let me sell even if I wanted to... £1 a share come what may! 9 times out of 10 my wife's share picks turn out well! | netcurtains
18/9/2020 08:53 | I expect this to grind towards 100p over the next six to twelve months. There is no justification for this trading at such a big discount to net assets and less than 10x last year earnings. The worth of a company is over the long term. The grind up from 30p will continue, I am certain I also think Keller is a good bet | studentinvestor13
17/9/2020 13:48 | From John Lewis 1/2 year results: 1. They have reopened their textile factory (which is a good sign re fabric sales). 2. From press release: Sales momentum is starting to build in reopened stores, with sales down around 30% on last year, ahead of expectations. Stores in retail parks are down by around 15% and are doing better than city centres, especially London which is down around 40%. Home working has had a big impact on what people are buying Home working means buying more things for the HOME. | netcurtains
16/9/2020 10:44 | That’s correct Colefax has a decorating division which is about 15 percent of turnover and kingcome sofas which is a very small amount | salver2 |
