I'm sure the potential CGT change will play a role, you have people sitting on 300% gains in Volex over last five years. If you normalise CGT with Income tax that could change the after tax profit on a £10,000 investment from £24k to £16.5k. You maybe also have ex and current employees sitting on big gains. The IHT exemption could also be a factor but that is less time sensitive unless you've just had bad news from the doctor!

It is regular as clockwork, best time to buy is 2 weeks before announcement (so probably around 10th October), best time to sell one month after (end November). This looks like a classic example of the pattern. Data centres have potential for a significant surprise contribution in H1.

Anecdotally, a related business that I have private shares in has just recorded its best month in over a year, about as good as two years ago. Sept will not be as strong, but this is night and day compared to most of 2023 and 2024.

Therefore, I’ve a suspicion that business confidence is growing and that bodes well for VLX.

Not really sure why share price dropping, but it’s not an alarming drop at all, so I don’t really care.

Have a re-read of the AGM statement (from 1st August):

- They would have known about the performance for July too, so this statement is affectively for the first 4 months of the year. Not too long now until HY report.

Positive start to the new financial year (a re-read for those who want to top-up)

Volex plc (AIM: VLX), the specialist integrated manufacturer of critical power and data transmission products, is pleased to report a trading update for the three months ended 30 June 2024, ahead of the Company's annual general meeting, being held at 2.00 pm today.

Continued trading momentum
The Group's trading performance in the first quarter of FY2025 has remained in line with management's expectations with the positive momentum outlined at the Group's FY2024 results continuing into the new financial year.

As anticipated, the Group has delivered an encouraging start to the new financial year with year-on-year constant currency organic revenue growth of 9.0% driven by particularly strong performances in the EV and Data Centre sectors. Murat Ticaret is trading well year to date in its first full year of ownership, supplementing strong year-on-year organic growth in the Off-Highway market.

Investing for growth
The Group has continued to make targeted capital and operational investments to enhance capacity and capability in key locations. This includes the completion of the site expansions in Mexico, India and Indonesia, with further expansion in Türkiye due to complete in the coming months. This additional capacity allows the Group to support a range of customers who are reconfiguring their supply chains to localise production and mitigate risk.

Outlook
The Group's encouraging performance in the first quarter, combined with the ongoing investment plans, improving market backdrop in key sectors and continued integration of Murat Ticaret, gives the Board confidence in Volex's ability to make further progress against its strategy during the year and deliver on its expectations.

AIM has dropped around 3-4% this month, VLX down 10%+

Unfortunately VLX has a bit of a history of falling when there is an extended period of no news.

my theory is folk are selling as VLX an AIM stock and lack of IHT liability likely to be removed in budget ?

The whole market is heavily down, it's just tracking. That said, the usual mid-results malaise can be expected. Buying in early October is usually well rewarded.

There is also the ever present possibility of potential acquirer interest pushing up the price.

Quite a chunk of volume about 4 days ago coupled with a decent rise, looks like this is being bought and maybe sellers are less of a force as such, no great surprise after such higher volume that the price starts moving up. IMO

Many shares have a tail of potential sellers (stale bulls) just waiting for a slightly better price to bail out which inevitably makes headway slow. I suspect VLX is no different. The effect when the end of that tail is reached can be transformative.
I have no particular reason to think that point may be approaching but recent new highs are at least a pointer in the right direction.
