EI, while I can see the logic in your contention, I believe that the dividend is pretty secure based on the history of dividend payments made by VOD over the last few decades. The dividend is a reward to shareholders from the free cash flow. As VOD is highly cash generative, I see no reason why the dividend will be cut in the immediate term, though I do see pressure on mobile operators on their margins and need to invest in future technology through massive infrastructure costs.

Thank goodness Vodafone no pension legacy problems like BT.Seem to be winning over EE Customers.Dividend is safe in my opinion.

Not that it will make the slightest difference, but here goes- this is why I think a dividend but may be highly beneficial.. Many of the income funds appear underweight or have exited VOD because of dividend sustainability concerns, they may not be tempted back, Unless paradoxically, the dividend is cut. A reduced pay out that can gradually be raised over future years, cashflow allowing, is more attractive to many fund managers than a stagnant payout which is in some doubt. A dividend cut at a stroke would transform investor sentiment here.

The drop in telecoms is an opportunity or a sector to avoid? John

FTSE dropped 50 points and VOD hardly moved, normally it would have dropped 10p

In other words is the net gain nil or less than nil?... Vodafone's reason for share buyback - '...the purpose of the buyback is to reduce its issued share capital in order to avoid any change in its share capital when the first tranche of its mandatory convertible bond matures this month.'

TalkTalk shares slide after £15m profit warning. The telecom group's shares sank after it said full-year earnings will fall short due to higher customer acquisition costs. hxxps://news.sky.com/story/talktalk-shares-slide-after-15m-profit-warning-11624509 SP currently down 6%.

So bears not only fighting against buybacks starting this month and dividend reinvestment plans that automatically buy shares, they will have to pay back the dividend when they go ex div.145p on it way, only my opinion.

IE, Potential turn on my chart today, high turn? Viewing telecoms from a distance, it looks more like cannibalism than consolidation.

Fighting the 1.5 billion buyback this month to me would be crazy. Why let Vod have your share cheap. Its all to do with supply and demand.140p algorithms would kick in and buy.Happened yesterday spiked to 141.5p as soon as 140p hit.I see 143p.
