Pre strike levels were around 700, will it get back to those levels without results, I am not sure... But a positive start to get back to 600

From the Times, 23.9.23 "Hopes of a settlement to end Hollywood’s long-running writers’ strike are building after reports that writers and studios may be nearing a deal.

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) was locked in talks with the bosses of some of the nation’s largest companies last week in Los Angeles. No agreement was struck, but at 10pm on Friday the WGA issued a statement saying the parties would meet again to continue talks today.

Philippa Childs, the head of the UK’s broadcasting union Bectu, said the news had provided “some hope” for her members, many of whom have been out of work as a result of the industrial action. An industry source said: “This is as hopeful as it’s felt for a while.”

Variety, the Hollywood trade title, reported that the sides had moved “significantly closer” to ending their stalemate and suggested a “tentative deal” may be close. A CNBC report earlier in the week had said parties were confident of striking a deal on Thursday, but this did not materialise.

The Hollywood film giants are represented in the talks by the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), which is fronted by president Carol Lombardini. The negotiations in recent days have included Bob Iger, the chief executive of Disney, as well as David Zaslav, boss of Warner Brothers Discovery, NBCUniversal’s Donna Langley and Ted Sarandos, co-chief executive of Netflix."

Still no results date, unless they are just going to publish without notice,
that would be unusual.

Talks start again tomorrow with renewed optimism! Would be a positive here, and maybe a prompt to get a line drawn under the lack of coms

Looks like this has finally bottomed out, without specific news on strike or results can't see it moving much. Can't see the the strike going on much longer, alot of people will be feeling the pinch now.

'Marquee Writers Push for Negotiations, but Their Clout May Not Matter'

Some showrunners, eager for progress in the Hollywood strike, want the Writers Guild of America to meet with studios. How much sway they still have is in question.

Morning EI.

I don't think that's too cautious. VID is looking like a lost cause at the moment and still no news of a results update. Very poor indeed.

Phil, I e-mailed Jupiter to strongly suggest VID is dumped from the RII portfolio,
the e-mail probably not even read!, but wanted to put down in writing my reasons
to exit, if that is possible.

Will shortly see if I'm calling this too cautiously.

The share price is down 1500 - 500 so as you say no real surprises from here is fine by me. Saying that there will probably be a surprise!

Agree with that.

The dividend will surely be cut and no real surprise if there's a discounted placing or rights issue.

You were not impolite... I don't think they can maintain it short term... I was talking longer term. I only look longer term, which is why I have taken a relatively small position at these levels.

With respect, wake up if you consider the payout will be held at current levels.
I don't mean to be impolite.

The dividend yield is relatively good at these levels and have been consistently high payers, if they can maintain it! The writers strike cannot last for ever and only effects about 20% of income, so there is potential for short term gains at these prices. The more shares they lock away the better if the future concencus forecast are even close.

My VID holding is already well under 2% of my portfolio but I also reckon it could well go lower. Just a gamble for me now and pretty much dead money.

Phil, I still have an indirect holding here through RIII, VID comprises 2% of their portfolio.

Have a feeling it may shortly be less than 2%!, but might be wrong.
