The only possible read across is whether Vianet may also have problems in getting whatever supplies they need in a timely way.

Vianet are very different to Next, I don't see the read across. This is a semi conductor issue affecting the whole world. Demand is very high but business will stock up just like people did with toilet rolls.

One would like to think so but Next, which had good results, have warned that supply difficulties will continue and I heard they are having to fly stuff in which nobody will be happy about.

As regards Vianet, do you not think that that drop might have something to do with the increase in Covid cases when the cold weather has barely started and the consequences that that implies? I see the share price is picking up again so may top up but I have lost a huge amount by doing so with other companies after big falls so may just sit on my hands.

The at best seller was given a raw deal the other day, a few others then see the move and panic. Take advantage if you can and go against you natural instincts which to most investors is fright. The update was good, business is much better, only negative was supply of parts but like toilet roll I expect the supply issues to normal out over the coming months.

Bizarre fall following a decent update. Have added a few. Hoping for an easy gain and move back clear of 100p. Or I'm missing something entirely.

Am curious to know what you traders call a few, i.e. what sort of sums you risk in such a situation, if that isn't a state secret.

It just shows, leisure/hospitality is picking up. Like you say, a good general indicator.

Whitbread's principal business is hotels. Their remaining interest in pubs/branded restaurants is minimal. I'm not sure they are of much use to VNET other than as the most general indicator that people are beginning to spend again post-Covid, but you can see that from many other areas of the economy anyway.

UK demand in the leisure sector, there's definitely a read through.

· Leisure demand remains strong in the UK into H2, with business demand improving, resulting in September total accommodation sales up 9.7% vs FY20.

"Our Smart Zones division is set to recover in line with the UK pub and US hospitality markets, as well as gaining revenue momentum from its market and retail data insight services. As we exit the lockdown phases, our draught beer insights remain highly valuable for customers to understand trading performance and patterns and aid decision-making. We have already received orders and enquiries for installations of new systems, as well as exploring new services designed to help clients during these uncertain times.

Well if Whitbread are anything to go by we should be having a decent second half.

· Premier Inn's recovery in H1 was ahead of expectations

· Significant market outperformance in the UK, with Premier Inn total accommodation sales 12.3 pp ahead of the midscale and economy market in H1, and 13.9 pp ahead in Q2

· Expansion continuing at pace in Germany with the total open and committed pipeline now at 73 hotels, with statutory revenue 197.3% ahead of FY20

Small selling but enough to see the bid tank to 91p. Overdone surely.
