No idea - Chinese manufacturing data was poor so it's not that.

This is now getting close to my terrible entry points between 395 and 420. Huge sigh of relief ;-)

I sold all my others from much lower down in the 345 to 355 area

Panmure Gordon predicts "another almighty crash" in the steel market and thus feels molten metal flow engineering company Vesusvius will not be..

I guess they were on the wrong side of this as the price started moving up fast !!

I think the fact that VSVS does huge trade in $, euros and RMB hasn't been factored in. The £ has plummeted against all of them.

Just took this by Panmure from Research Tree… "The economics of the US steel industry continue to improve, albeit not because of demand. Tariffs are helping to cut Chinese imports in the US markets, where steel prices are now up 70% since the low point in December 2015. More importantly, capacity utilisation at US steel mills has improved from 60% in December 2016 to 75% in early June...
Higher US steel prices and capacity utilisation matters to Vesuvius as US mills restock on consumables. The management is not relying on a turnaround to deliver cash returns. However, as fundamentals improve the risk to our forecasts are on the
upside."

Read Panmure Gordon & Co's note on VESUVIUS PLC (VSVS), out this morning, by visiting hxxps://www.research-tree.com/company/GB00B82YXW83
"Vesuvius will issue a trading update on Thursday and we expect the management to remain cautious about trading, particularly given that China appears to be reversing its policy of cutting capacity. However, we continue to believe that the fundamentals of the steel industry are improving and... We believe as its exports are made increasingly unwelcome across the world, China will have no option but to cut capacity as domestic stocks rise and losses mount. US steel prices are up more than 50% and this matters more to Vesuvius as..."

I sold vsvs(309p) beginning of last month to buy Sony. Back on my watch list but nervous about this sector in general and staying mostly in cash over the summer.

hmm - I thought the results were pretty good considering the economic backdrop and clearly someone agreed with me first thing since it opened at 345.

Hopefully it will move up during the day as the weak sellers exit

Solid results as per the management guidance. PE of 11 and dividend of 5% so will hold. Should recover from here methinks

R2, agreed. Results on Thursday and although guidance was towards the lower end of forecasts (EBITDA £125 million?) there could be some significant upside due to recent exchange rate movements.

Hi wipo1, pity it didn't hang on to 308p yesterday but a nice rise anyway. I think there is a change in sentiment around the corner. This has been creeping up steadily in a pretty volatile market. Touched 312 today so it will be an interesting finish methinks provided the Dow doesn't spoil things this afternoon.

Hi Chadders that's good you're breaking even. I bought at 300.2p so roughly breaking even including fees.I was thinking the same thing about currency, definitely good news for vsvs. Also a outside chance of a bid.Looking decent if we can break the 308p area.

Wipo1, I'm breaking even on this now. Just a thought - the weakening of sterling could have a positive impact on the final results ref the following from the trading statement,

"The strengthening of Sterling during the year continues to impact the translation of our results"

Hi wipo1, yes topped up but my average is 306p now so still a tad under water. It's currently my biggest holding so I'm hoping true value will be realised sooner rather than later.

Historically a decent dividend payout so if they maintain past levels it could be 5%

Thanks Chadders, on the bright side I sold other shares to purchase vsvs and they're down about the same amount. So if I'm an optimistic I am no better or worse off lol.280p holding so unless vsvs breaks that I'm staying put and will drip feed small amounts.Good luck to you too.
