18/11/2019 11:38 | If Aecom could use all these other materials to enhance concrete, how come they are only finding out about them now when they have been available for years? Funny how there are all these alternatives just exactly when graphene becomes more widely available? Aecom trying to talk down the price of graphene? | ![]() willoicc
18/11/2019 11:31 | billwave, I think it is fair to say that the shares were driven up by little more than blind optimism . Investors have expected too much too soon. However , the company may yet succeed; the question is --within what time frame ? There is no reliable guidance on how long this may take, therefore the stock is still speculative. | ![]() roddiemac2

18/11/2019 11:28 | As bad as expected thanks, this years dismal performance has been signposted for some time and should be no surprise to anyone with some brains. Believe it or not (I don’t care if you do ;)) I am a LTH in both from below 20p but I find the blind faith and groundhog day nature of many VRS investors worthy of a little leg pulling once or twice a week ;) I hope the BIG China news drops soon but if VRS doesn’t come up with some big revenue in the next yr I believe it will be down where IQE is now. | ![]() tomduck

18/11/2019 10:17 | metis - thanks for the links. I'd seen the Construction News one, or something like it that must have appeared at much the same time, and was struck by the comment 'For the project, Aecom is working in glass fibre-reinforced plastic' which I seem to remember being discussed at the time. The question remains I think whether the graphene variant is just a publicity stunt, riding on the back of graphene hype, or whether that will be the version that enters mass production. I'm still struggling to understand what the graphene/polygrene add that can't be achieved more cheaply with other materials. I hadn't seen the patent - interesting. I note firstly that it's an application not a patent, and as far as I can see has not yet been granted. It's also had most of its claims cancelled, presumably because the examiner queried them. What remains is to my mind rather banal - 3D printed in parts anchored together; with cavities, which can contain ballast; using truss patterns which can contain voids; a support structure; optionally made from plastic; a fitting using a ball joint to connect an antenna. Sounds a bit like Lego Technic! But it does make it clear they're evaluating various polymer materials rather than defining one as being an essential part of the design. The use of graphene is explicitly stated as an option rather than a necessity, hence not a fundamental part of the application, and certainly not found in the few remaining claims. lucky - sounding a bit strident these days. Relax. troll - yes, imm was bad for those who didn't heed the clear warning signs (were you one of them - you sound a bit sore?) although quite profitable for the rest of us. | ![]() supernumerary

18/11/2019 09:35 | Not very good with the research is he metis , doesn't bode well for any investments he makes with fundamental errors like that? 60 materials , 500 applications vetted for the actual application and narrowed down to 1 and we know who that is . 18/11/2019 09:32 | AECOM arch patent link – Extract - "In some embodiments, the support structure (e.g., arch assembly or hinged mast) can comprise a polymer (e.g., a graphene reinforced plastic). In some embodiments, the support structure can comprise a thermoplastic material, such as acrylonitrile styrene acrylate (ASA). For example, in various embodiments, the support structure can comprise KIBILAC® PS-957, provided by Chi Mei Corporation of Taiwan. Employment of 3D printing techniques advantageously facilitate tailoring assemblies for the unique environments of need entailed by historical railroad infrastructure, and particularly for restrictive environments for municipal commuter rail and subway systems, without having to maintain inventories of multiple different configurations." | ![]() metis20
