Best ellis 'Farsoon & Airbus Join to Establish R&D on Polymer Additive Manufacturing in Civil Aviation' From Farsoon Technologies Feb 27 2019 "Farsoon Technologies and Airbus (Beijing) Engineering Centre Co., LTD (ABEC) sign a collaboration contract establishing a joint research and development program for polymer additive manufacturing in civil aviation. This marks Airbus’, a global industry - leader in the aerospace sector, first collaboration with a Chinese company in the polymer AM field. Based on this collaboration, Airbus and Farsoon will combine and share their collective expertise to research and development a high-performance polymer material for civil aircraft on Farsoon's AM systems. Furthermore, Farsoon will fine tune and optimize processing parameters for the new material on Farsoon's open platform systems, which offers users full access to processing parameters; while Airbus will be validating the properties and performance according to the needs of civil aviation requirements. Thanks to Farsoon's "Open for Industry" company philosophy, collaborations with companies such as Airbus will have the freedom to explore future innovation, expanding industrial application for the AM industry. "We are very excited to start this R&D collaboration with Airbus. As a leading industrial AM solution provider, Farsoon has been pushing towards the transition of AM applications from prototyping to manufacturing."  "It is the first time for Airbus to cooperate with Chinese company in polymer AM industry. Airbus has been keep toned with the development of the AM technology, and we are impressed by Farsoon's capability of innovation and industrial focus."commented Michel Tran Van: "Airbus is looking for more than the performance of new material. We need to keep in mind what industrializing AM needs, including workflows development, cost management, industrial manufacturing capabilities and speed. With the same goal of industrialization, I look forward to the R&D results of this collaboration, and I believe we will carry out more cooperation in the future." | ![]() ellissj

Best ellis 'Lightweight Advanced Composites for Aerospace Interiors' 'Sponsored by TRB Lightweight Structures LtdDec 19 2017' "The defense and aerospace sectors have already considerably benefited from lightweight advanced composites which have helped in key performance improvements. Since these benefits are long-term, leading manufacturers such as Airbus and Boeing, are now building structural parts using more than 50% advanced composites for their aircraft, such as the A380 and B787 Dreamliner. The composite structure designed particularly for commercial aircraft has a honeycomb prepreg composite laminate that was produced in an autoclave or a heated press. This material can be employed in interior applications. TRB Lightweight Structures has prepared itself to meet the demand for composite materials by increasing its manufacturing units and the number of composites design, acquiring certifications and employing additional labor (Figure 1). The company now assists in training manufacturers to leverage the major performance benefits provided by advanced composites. TRB has acquired its Part21 approval, meaning it can now work directly with the global commercial airlines. Providing improved existing products or designing and developing brand new composite assemblies/ monuments.Novel Capabilities of TRB For many years, TRB has been involved in assisting aerospace operators and manufacturers. It has been operating as a Tier 1 supplier of lightweight engineering solutions for the aerospace interior OEM manufacturers across the globe. TRB has been involved in the design and manufacture of complex interior products. The company provides various exterior and interior components, such as magazine racks, doors, dog boxes, partitions, mirrors, floors, storage units, wardrobes, lavatory panels, galleys and monuments. 28/2/2019 08:38 | Ellissj, regarding your aircraft interiors post, i posted this a while ago. According to the FAA there are 7000 kg (15,000 pounds) of combustible cabin materials in an average passenger aircraft. Aircraft operators estimate that each pound of weight on a commercial aircraft costs between $100 to $300 in operating expenses over the service life of the aircraft. Just halving the weight of the seat cushions, upholstery and trim could save up to half a million dollars per aircraft. | ![]() magic beans
