02/1/2019 09:29 | Thats great APAD Once again thanks for running the comp and thanks for your patience. | thelongandtheshortandthetall
02/1/2019 09:23 | Porvair results due end of month. Although I am on a free carry I am tempted to cut back further. It has no job vacancies, has trouble in penetrating China and has bought a consumer filter division. This is not the company I bought. apad | apad
02/1/2019 08:46 | I have changed it to this IE00B3NS4D25.IR, tlst. Without the R it doesn't work. "Lindsell Train Global Equity B" OK? | apad
02/1/2019 08:45 | Hey Red. It will probably be a difficult year. Brexit etc. Euro zone. Trumpton. Chinese ambitions. Debt everywhere it seems. the unknown... Brown trousers and gold plated bicycle clips at the ready :) Personally I'm staying nimble and fleeting. | thelongandtheshortandthetall
02/1/2019 08:43 | If the markets stay down at these levels, at the emd of trading, it would be very interesting to see the results of the share competition at that point. How close will it be to the outcome on 31 December 2019? red | redartbmud
02/1/2019 08:40 | HI APAD Sorry to be a pain. can we switch (Lindsell train) IE00BJSPMJ28.IR for IE00B3NS4D25.I Thanks alot. | thelongandtheshortandthetall
02/1/2019 08:25 | For whats its worth. In reply to Attraders post above re property. I think we may find some massive value plays in property in 2020 or there abouts I personally believe there is huge demand for property. Just not at current prices. There is a bank of would be buyers if prices decline slightly. Property shares are no doubt going to get decimated in the short term. But that my plan anyway. keep an eye on property. | thelongandtheshortandthetall
02/1/2019 08:21 | tlst (SSON.L SGLP.L GB00B41YBW71.L IE00BJSPMJ28.IR GB00BKJ9C676.L) Check they are what you want, tlst. apad | apad
02/1/2019 08:15 | tlatsatt The motor trade may be in a bubble created by cheap finance and the switch to leasing instead of buying cars. Having said that, I expect a much higher percentage of companies to report lower profits in 2019 than those reported in 2018. It will be surprising if share prices do not reflect this fact and should trade at levels below the highs of last year. Stock picking and trading the dips will be the answer. Just MHO The FTSE got off to a flying start, with triple digit falls. Hey ho.... red | redartbmud
02/1/2019 08:00 | I was talking to a friend in car sales on new years eve. He said they have a huge bank of unsold new cars. He said its back to 2008 levels. So much so that theyve had to some internal jiggery pokery in order to maintain healthy credit limits. Maybe its conformation bias and I asked suitable questions. But I always ask this guy how things are going. Personally I think things are going to get a little worse before they get better. | thelongandtheshortandthetall
01/1/2019 22:02 | APAD. I'm assuming my codes for the comp are all sorted now? And yes good work on running it. top job! | thelongandtheshortandthetall
01/1/2019 21:36 | In my view, UK house builders are in for a major shock after Brexit. UK population growth has been around 0.7% for a couple of decades even though we have fertility rate of 1.8. It has been due to UK net immigration picking up in 1970/80's after joining EU in 1973. Net immigration will reverse after Brexit which will push population growth into negative territory thus significantly impacting housing demand (UK housing demand is calculated taking into account population growth, household size, as well as foreign investment)... I see tied up capital in UK house builders and construction rental companies in the form of land purchased by house builders, unsold inventory, and rental equipment depreciating without earning anything. Lots of jobs will be lost which might result in a recession though there is no way to foresee it. | attrader
01/1/2019 18:51 | Modform, thanks. CBUY is my only stock that I did not sell around 22 months ago. Infact I’ve been a consistent buyer, based on my conviction that NHS Personal Health budgets will be a massive success for both patients and the NHS. Having researched and bought COM at 4P and sold at £9.50, and NTA at 2P sold at £1.40 I don’t need a fortune to see out my days. Yes, I do put my money where my mouth is, knowing farewell the odds are stacked on my side if you buy very low cap companies, perceived as rubbish, that have the chance to make fanstatic returns over time. Not all will produce the goods,CBUY is a prime example to date. I have always taken the view that if your going to invest your cash you must go for the very highest returns, to offset the risk. The problem here, as I see it,: Valuations are so high that even if your companies profits grow by 20% the market will not be rewarded with a higher PE or share price. So the trick in this bear market is first, to stay away, and second only put money into stocks that can Ten or Twenty bag. Your going to need that kind of an edge if we see, 5 or 10 years of falling asset prices across the board. Debt is the issue,it simply is not going to be repaid by governments, companie | good health
01/1/2019 18:44 | Thanks for running the comparison. Sadly, in both 2017 and 2018, my comparison entries outperformed my actual portfolio (-5.5% in 2018). The diversification in my portfolio diluted the impact of my best ideas. Going forward I am keen to focus more (within reason) on my best ideas. | rp19
01/1/2019 18:06 | The only share you've tipped on here toptrump was Kier at circa 1300p. It's lost 70% of its value since then. Some people are just not cut out for investing. | hydrus
01/1/2019 17:06 | Blimey, William Barbour is now posting as Good Health, happy new year and hope CBUY will make you a fortune finally, at least you have put your money where your mouth is | modform
01/1/2019 16:40 | 100% agree with TOPTRUMP 1 You lot think your experts looking for and investing in Growth Stocks. The reason you have done so well over the last ten years is as follows USA total inflation 2008 - 2018 16.3% USA Increase in Govt debt just shy of 200% | good health
01/1/2019 11:48 | ps Will probably buy puppies in CPC and SRT in the new year. For now, it's preparing the company accounts and waiting for the performance of brands over Xmas. Gulp. apad😧 | apad
01/1/2019 11:24 | Many thanks, Piedro. I can grasp the wrong end of the stick very firmly! Back on my list. apad😊 | apad
01/1/2019 10:43 | Well the results speak for themselves, contrary to your performance boasts most of you have shown losses, some huge! A few have held on to gains but I suspect those will quickly reverse this year and yet some are delusional. Your portfolios are crumbling but you continue the pretence. Some of you appear very concerned to keep your capital ahead in “real terms” but are hell bent on choosing lottery bandwagon stocks that mostly produce negative returns in the medium - longer term. Ok if you can keep switching but APAD has proved this is much easier said than done. Reading this thread is like ignoring half the picture, How’s stairway doing the last 6mths? I’d love to see a table of all your actual portfolios performance ;) Good luck for new year. | toptrump1
01/1/2019 10:36 | APAD, RNS Number : 3446J SRT Marine Systems PLC 04 December 2018 £31million VMS System Contract Award SRT Marine Systems plc ('SRT'), a global provider of maritime management, monitoring and surveillance systems announces that it has been awarded a contract worth Philippine Peso (PHP) 2.096 billion (UK£31million at current exchange rates) by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) of The Philippine Government to supply a professional integrated Vessel Management System (VMS) fisheries and environment monitoring system solution. Re: the satellite project from their latest Interim Report ... In 2017 we announced our intention to invest in our own satellite constellation. Following a period of intensive research and evaluation we have decided not to proceed with this investment. The satellite market is rapidly evolving with numerous competing systems being launched, thus providing SRT with a wide choice and a highly competitive market within which we can source the data our customers need. | piedro
01/1/2019 09:45 | Thanks, j. If your choice is between losing slowly or losing quickly, you are right, janeann. However, there are other choices😊 I can present the Comparison data as above with the latest monthly result for 2019 as well as the monthly progress. See how it goes, let me know if it's overkill. Maybe I should learn how to post pictures, as it is much nicer to see it formatted. It feels much better to have a community set of entries than one peppered with entries from unknowns. Good luck with your decisions in the coming year. Keep ignoring the trolls! apad😊 | apad
01/1/2019 00:54 | apad ; consistency for you - in my picks for this year. Real money; as a youngster I was in real trouble for a 1d fine on a library book. I know what real money is - and what not having it is like. I don't want to lose it, and better to have it devalued slowly than buy into the wrong investment. happy new year to all and best wishes for 2019. | janeann
