26/3/2017 04:58 | Hochschild Mining Plc. I was wondering what the argument is for that one, L? Looks interesting. I know nothing :-) No argument from me APAD ;-) They are reducing their debt big time and the bottom line is doing better as a result of higher silver and gold prices, so as long as the latter keep at these levels or better still go higher all should be fine. They are one of the lowest cost PM producers in the world. I realize their may be some political risk associated with the countries in South America they work in, but to me they are a decent and above all transparent operation. A FTSE250 company too, so I can sleep relatively comfortably at night. Hope your training stint helps the students find those dangerous cracks. Better found than missed when talking about the things that may host them! PS. You may be interested in page 47 and a few more pages on in this piece: | lauders
25/3/2017 20:46 | Why are folks so susceptible to technology and science nonsense? Can't put on the radio without listening to nonsense about robotics and artificial intelligence. Why are people so easy to fool and so hard to educate? apad | apad
25/3/2017 20:36 | Yup. Cracks in pipes, aircraft and nuclear vessels, red. Just docking in Guernsey - last chance saloon. apad | apad
25/3/2017 20:12 | APAD Agreed. Wow, you are venturing into a real country then. One of your training stints? red | redartbmud
25/3/2017 18:51 | I don't see BVXP as being in control of the news re cardiac troponin, but Monday will remind people what a phenomenal cash machine the company is and I suspect there will be a significant currency boost. I'm still stunned that it is my biggest income generator. apad | apad
25/3/2017 18:45 | ps On the boat to Portsmouth. How adventurous is that! | apad
25/3/2017 18:42 | Perfectly reasonable post by pete, red. Please don't rise to the bait. It's the sort of thing that ruins a good board. apad | apad
25/3/2017 18:06 | Now girls, put the handbags away. From time to time I have been accused, by my associates, of talking utter gibberish. Surprisingly, I get the occasional thing right. Maybe that is why I continue to invest. red | redartbmud
25/3/2017 18:00 | And I genuinely hope you feel a lot better for posting that load of utter claptrap, Pete. I remember your first post on the FFWD thread when you made some asinine comment about the "stuff" in the header which took too long for you to scroll down. "Stuff" in headers is actually research which may or may not help potential new investors to understand what a company is all about and I would have thought you had been around the ADVFN bulletin board long enough to use the SKIP HEADER facility. You are welcome to post on the FFWD thread again with your contrarian views, but I suggest before doing so that you make at least some attempt to understand what the company is all about, which means being able to think outside the box. Alternatively there are several other FFWD threads which some of your multiple user named poster friends on ADVFN have started, you may feel more at home posting on one of these threads. | doodlebug4
25/3/2017 17:19 | Because I prioritized other recent buys I completely missed out on IQE due to a lack of sufficient free capital. It has subsequently raced ahead, so that was my mistake. Anyone else involved? Wondering whether to chase it or let it go. Any ponderings welcome. pete | petersinthemarket
25/3/2017 17:06 | I regret that to me the puppy still looks in need of a vet. I was completely taken in by their initial promises but there has been no convincing company communication in 12 months. No help from the company as there is little to say. No comfort on the thread for the same reason - contributors can only cut and paste and talk to themselves causing some to take an aggressive stance against contrarian views. The Cy has run out of money. Something needs to be sold at a profit very soon or they risk going broke. As a backstop, they must be at least considering a placing. I can look on with a reduced interest as I sold the bulk of mine into any mini-rise in several tranches last year to reduce my losses, but simply to get the remains of my capital back I would need to see an share price increase of 87%. Possible? Some holders must be getting really frightened. I am genuinely sorry for those who keep hanging on but puzzled by those who keep buying the effing dips. It might work out, or it might not, but it is certainly risky and for me it summons up an image of a long barge pole. There are many far better bets to lay. I genuinely hope I have it wrong. I genuinely hope it works out for them. The 31st March year end is looming. Very soon the company will have to come clean and declare the current situation and that should clear the air for everyone. Best of luck to holders. | petersinthemarket
25/3/2017 14:16 | APAD Slow down on the steroids, they can make you feel manic. red | redartbmud
25/3/2017 14:01 | Fenner is a great company. Not immune from the cycle. Hochschild Mining Plc. I was wondering what the argument is for that one, L? Looks interesting. I know nothing :-) apad | apad
25/3/2017 13:51 | APAD - Small holdings in both unfortunately when it comes to FENR. I was down for a long time on that one as bought in the mid to high 100's watched it go down to its lows and then have now watched it rise and rise. Think it will continue for a while. In profit over 50% on it now from my original buy. Not quite as good as some of your holdings. Hard for me to pick conviction buys. HOC is my only one really so don't go knocking over the house of cards and convince me otherwise. So far I am up overall on that one but down on a few top-ups. If precious metals take off as I hope in future I should be happy. | lauders
25/3/2017 13:36 | Lauders, If I remember correctly your holding in QuicklyBackwards is not large. My habit of buying into a company in stages, as I learn more, developed from fear of the ease of making a mistake. I exit much faster, as befits a scaredy-cat. Maybe QB will come good, but the notion of funding other people to choose investments horrifies me - whether that be scary QB or boring Alliance Trust. Fenner, boring +25% YTD. QB exciting, -10% YTD :-) Hope you had a big holding in Fenner! apad | apad
25/3/2017 13:18 | "I told you I was from Duddli, diddni?" Oh dear! apad | apad
25/3/2017 12:26 | I used to mess about and do a made up charactor called 'Dudders Dud from Dudley'. Used to make me laugh anyway. | thelongandtheshortandthetall
25/3/2017 11:53 | DD4 has disappeared. He must be from Tipton or West Bromwich, which are not as desirable as Dudleeeeey. red | redartbmud
25/3/2017 10:46 | Opinion, not advice, fozzie! One of the good things about this board is the trading of opposing opinions without acrimony. Just as well as very little is clear cut, which is why I tend to avoid single company boards - although there are some sensible ones. A year or so ago I had the temerity to point out that everyone generating electricity down the street did not make technical sense, on the Flowgroup board. You'd've thought I'd said their wives weren't beautiful or their kids weren't smart! Had a quick look at the board after the recent debacle and the same people were still there! Beware Confirmation Bias Big week next week. BVXP/FARN/PTSG/SOU news and a RDSB divi to spend! And I'm working in sunny Buxton:-) apad | apad
25/3/2017 10:03 | SPX went over 5 months without a 1% fall, that is generational low volatility, mid 1990's the last time it occurred. Expecting at least a few weaker days over the next few weeks looks a low odds bet to me, following such a tranquil time for markets. It usually offers up some opportunities as well, so welcome in my book. | essentialinvestor
25/3/2017 09:46 | Managed to heed your advice on VANL to date APAD and have spent the money on a few purchases of IGG sub 500 which I think and hope will provide a nice income with some capital growth as well. Statement read very well to me. A bit fed up of 'everyone' talking us into a reversal at this point, advice on shorting abounds and the boards and Twitter are full of 'top slicing' and moving to cash. | fozzie
25/3/2017 08:20 | As long as the chamber is empty you will be fine APAD! LOL Looking forward to what BVXP have to say and may top-up even at these levels. | lauders
25/3/2017 07:43 | ....and funding pretty boy's lifestyles :-) All very sensible strategies. BVXP is 6% of the portfolio and I would like more..... ....but that would be treating SOU like an investment, and I have loads of those, not as a bet:-) So, I'm riding the dragon! apad | apad
25/3/2017 03:33 | APAD - Re: SOU - Possible course of action would be to see what news BVXP brings on Monday and then if all is on track top-slice SOU and put proceeds into them and benefit from the income (dividend and another special?). Yes SOU may rocket northwards from here, but if it drops like a brick then you will be happy you switched. It is a roulette company as you say though and you are the one pulling that trigger ;-) Talking of pulling triggers: The puppy is behaving VERY BADLY. I know you will say "told you so!". :-( Always had issues with listening to those wiser than myself! | lauders |
