13/1/2020 06:45 | Guys i think it is back to where it was supposed to be before the rather bizarre take-off last year when it decided to put on 30% on the basis of................ your guess is as good as mine. This is a steady eddy growing at 6-7% compound and that is what the share price should be doing If you were canny enough to sell out at 52 or whatever and buy back at 42 then well done you. I have restarted my regular investment The second area to be careful of is that steady and predictable is the name of the game. ULVR shouldn't surprise on either side. If it starts doing that, it will lose some of its allure as bedrock | ![]() marksp2011

09/1/2020 00:32 | HSBC note... The bank’s analysts noted that 2019 will go down “as a year of divergence" for the European food & household & personal care companies Shares in Unilever PLC (LON:ULVR) drifted lower after HSBC downgraded its rating for the Anglo-Dutch consumer products giant to ‘hold’ from ‘buy’ in an outlook for European Staples in 2020. The global bank’s analysts noted that 2019 will go down “as a year of divergence for the European Food & HPC (household & personal care) companies but also a generally disappointing one with the majority of companies missing guidance in some capacity.” And, they added: “We think that conditions in 2020 are likely to remain tricky for the sector. Good margin outcomes are now priced in for many companies and further share price strength is contingent on improved organic sales growth, which will be hard to achieve amid low inflation and sluggish end markets.” proactiveinvestors.c | ![]() philanderer
08/1/2020 15:07 | Marked recent underperformance re peer group, PG near new all time highs as are multiple other consumer products groups. It may be Unilever's lsrger exposure to emerging markets: Significant recent slowdown in India and some other EM's. | ![]() essentialinvestor

08/1/2020 09:23 | Purpel, especially for you: ) Added a small amount. May get a little ugly on any further guidance cut, perhaps worth keeping in mind. India is a sizeable market for Unilever and that appears to be slowing rapidly. | ![]() essentialinvestor

07/1/2020 13:07 | Interesting. From what I understood I'm not sure he wants to cut all plastic but rather reduce it, so it should please the tree-huggers as well as maintain the portfolio of brands. Doing this might get ULVR included in more ESG funds and ultimately boost the SP, only time will tell.. "Earlier this month, Unilever committed to reducing virgin plastic in its business by 50% by 2025, as well as helping to collect and process more plastic packaging than it sells. The commitment is part of the company’s belief that a circular economy is the key to ending climate change. Jope explained: “To [help solve climate change] we have to move from a linear ‘take, use, throwaway’ model to a fully circular model.” He also noted he held the “controversial view” that plastic had many benefits and should not be eradicated from packaging." | ![]() gabsterx
07/1/2020 12:46 | The ratios are impressive. The divi is adequate and paid quarterly which I favour. The brands are great and should be recession proof. But the point we are making is that products such as Dove shampoo is never going to save the world. It comes in a single use plastic bottle ffs. So should ULVR dump Dove from the portfolio because its not saving the world even though it is profitable and has decent growth opportunities? A quick look at our brands and it is clear we use plastic packaging across the board. So why would a company who's products all come wrapped in plastic suddenly claim profit is not important and we are focused on saving the world or cutting products if they dont? Thats why I sold, and it's why I can't buy back in because we just have no idea if the board will start dumping our best products to please the climate alarmists and co. | ![]() purplepelmets
07/1/2020 12:34 | While it's true that turnover has been lagging, ROE and ROCE along with margins have seen a decent improvement which might signal that the company is making a turnaround. Regardless of who is running the show, I believe ULVR's moat will maintain it's attractiveness in the long run. "Invest in a company that is so good an idiot can run it because one day an idiot will." - Warren Buffett | ![]() gabsterx
07/1/2020 12:22 | My view also and its the reason why I sold. The very reason I purchased originally was the strength of great brands like marmite and pot noodle. | ![]() lendmeafiver
07/1/2020 12:05 | The problem is the focus of the company has shifted under Jope. We have always been focused on growth and profitability, to great effect- divis and the share price has enjoyed steady growth. Not any more. Now our focus is on virtue signalling on green matters and who cares about the product portfolio. Jope actually stated if any of our brands can't show they are literally saving the world they will be dumped. They have 1 year to prove their "nutty green-ness" It is 100% insane. This is IMHO why the share price is tanking. | ![]() purplepelmets
07/1/2020 11:59 | Initiated a small position last month at around 4300p, still getting familiar with the company and knew I wouldn't do it properly unless I had skin in the game. While there seems to be some concerns over the short term growth prospects, the company is generating very decent margins with a strong ROCE on top of a well covered dividend, might add some more this month if the price stays low. | ![]() gabsterx
