25/7/2019 09:59 | Money is becoming cheaper to borrow and seems will even become cheaper with the next turn down most central bank interest rates will be negative. The UK already has the cheapest food in the EU and with more and more supermarkets opening, only means lower and lower profits until they're basically making no profits at all. | loganair
25/7/2019 08:07 | It's called competition Logan, keeps the prices down for the consumer at the expense of shareholders in the less ably managed supermarkets. We have a new Lidl coming, the foundations have been laid, it's right next door to the Co-op and within a hundred yards of a Tesco Express. Next door to the Tesco Express is an empty former Nisa (Tuffins) supermarket, it went bust, the freeholder of the premises I'm told is the Co-op and they're being very careful who they rent it out to now. Swings and roundabouts really, I can see Aldi and Lidl coming to grief sooner or later if money becomes more expensive to borrow. | vaneric1
24/7/2019 22:17 | Almost every time I hear of a new supermarket opening, it is with in 100yds, even 50yds of another supermarket, shows the UK does not really need any more supermarkets. The UK already has more supermarkets per head of population then any other country in Europe, so why do more need to be built and opened? | loganair

23/7/2019 13:15 | Sainsbury's management seem to be trying every thing under the sun in the hope that something they're doing will pull Sainsbury's out of the mire they're in now. The big problem is the UK is over saturated with supermarkets and with Aldi/Lidl opening 40 new supermarkets per month this is only going to make the saturation worse and it seems to me something has to give. Sainsbury's need to differentiate themselves from the other supermarkets which doesn't mean just to try and follow the latest FAD which is an expensive way to follow something that is only going to last for a brief period of time. This is exactly where M&S have fallen down, they use to sell good quality, natural fibre timeless clothing and therefore became the first retailer to make £1bln (£5bln in todays money) in profit in 1990. Then, for some unknown reason the management of M&S decided to follow the latest FAD of made made fibre tat and rags and ever since profits have fallen year after year so M&S are now barely making £500mln profit. | loganair
23/7/2019 13:07 | I note SBRY are offering a delivery Pizza service Looks like that is the way to go for BIG4 Supermarkets to survive Tesco pizza service to follow ? | buywell2
23/7/2019 12:47 | 'Supermarket sales see first overall decline since 2016' Shares in Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons fell after industry data shows the market shrank for the first time in three years | philanderer
23/7/2019 09:52 | The recent hot air pumped into TSCO by PI's and Institutions will loads of cash they have to invest is now starting to escape. SBRY and MKS will show them the way | buywell3
23/7/2019 09:48 | Aldi/Lidl are opening up around 40 supermarkets per month. | loganair
23/7/2019 09:44 | It seems to me just another 6 to 9 months and Aldi/Lidl will have around the same market share as Asda and with in a little over a year will over take Sainsburys. | loganair
23/7/2019 09:31 | The latest Kantar figures show that Aldi/Lidl have increased their market share by 0.3% over the past month to give them a combined market share of 13.9%. | loganair

22/7/2019 08:39 | Tyre shine and the like is for tarting the car up before sticking it on Ebay. When I see your name on the posting list Logan I know immediately it's going to be something negative, I don't expect to see anything else, a bit like the Daily Mail and Labour or the Daily Mirror and Tories really :-) | vaneric1
21/7/2019 20:40 | Motor oil, cheaper from my local motor shop. I do not use WD-40, I use a silicon spray from my local motor shop as WD-40 dries too quickly. Also cheaper from my local motor shop. Air fresher, or as I call it, lowering the window. Never used one in my car, what a complete waste of money Tyre shine, tyre shine, I've never used the stuff and personally I do not Know anyone who does, what a waste of money. | loganair
19/7/2019 17:05 | Motor oil for the car is hardly a big seller in supermarkets, it's there for the convenience of shoppers who can't get to the motor factors who only open 9 to 5 Even Lidl don't try to undercut the motor factors. | vaneric1
19/7/2019 15:36 | I've noticed too how the prices in Tesco's, especially there own range have gone up over the past couple of weeks. I totally disagree that Tesco matches or is cheaper then the other 3 big supermarkets. And on non-grocery items Tesco's is often more expensive then either Superdrug or even Boots. Oil for the car I was surprised was much cheaper at my local motor company then Tesco, with the local motor company having staff who are far better able to explain exactly what I need for the car. | loganair
19/7/2019 15:08 | Rebellion price extension...lol | albert3591 |
