There is indeed too much overpackaged Alphorn.

Fingers crossed it works for them, although I'ds encourage people to wash thoroughly whatever they buy as some customers "cleanliness/habits" leave a lot to be desired.

Good move. Interestingly in France almost no fruit and veg are pre-packed.

There is still too much stuff over packaged.

Interesting move....

Tesco begins plastic-free trial for selection of fruit and veg
Only loose versions of 45 products will be sold in Extra stores in Watford and Swindon
Big supermarkets are responsible for producing more than 800,000 tonnes of plastic packaging waste each year, while consumers have increasingly demanded change as the environmental crisis caused by plastic grows. Plastic bag charges, introduced four years ago, have helped, although research shows that supermarkets still use billions of them each year.

Sarah Bradbury, director of quality at Tesco, said: “We hope this trial proves popular with customers. We’ll be keeping a close eye on the results, including any impact on food waste.”

Store management should be a lot better, some cant even do a simple rota leaving gaps with no staff, to many at quiet times only one on when busy.
Head office should visit stores unannounced,
Scan as you shop must lose a fortune, staff haven't the time for the proper checks, if they worked to rule it would be grid lock in the store.
Staff are stressed, cut cut cut, a good business plan ?

"People have to eat"

Sure but food prices are inflated.......

And there is simply too much food, too much choice, hence why so many fatsoes exist!!!

People have to eat and Tesco is doing fine.
According to the S Times article TSCO have a market leading position .
It also places bigger orders with it's suppliers so can get better terms than rivals so 'sales growth boosts the bottom line to a greater extent',says HSBC analyst Dave McCaarthy and recommends the shares.

I'm always amazed at how discriminatory the do-gooders are about wildlife Phil, these birds are pretty but they're also a health hazard when allowed to occupy food areas, they must be protected at all costs, now if we move on to the subject of rats...……;.kill 'em all!

Very interesting article about Tesco in S Times.by Sam Chambers Liam Kelly.
It had mixed messages at first because it showed how Jack's isn't likely to work, judging from the evidence so far.

'Lewis has committed to opening 15 stores within the first year but after eight were opened in the first three months none has been opened since'.
Tesco has said more will be opened, though and feedback had been strong.
'Lewis has decided to stop promoting lower-margin online sales, despite the faster growth in that market...'

The conclusion however,I felt was much more upbeat
'Lewis,54, has delivered a healthy recovery in sales by cutting prices and branding own-label ranges as well as by pursuing creative alliances...'

Finally 'A purchasing pact with French chain Carrefour last year and the acquisition of Booker look like deft strategic moves in the light of the
ill-advised £14 billion pursuit of Asda by Sainsbury's, a deal that has all but fallen apart'.
'That failure makes TESCO'S MARKET LEADING POSITION look unassailable for now'..'

It states that as ot places bigger orders with its suppliers than its rivals it also gets better terms.
So perhaps the need to fight Aldi Lidl wasn't necessary,it suggests.

I wonder where those swallows nested before Tesco built them a nice convenient home.
