23/2/2019 22:49 | American private equity giant KKR is plotting a bid for Walmart’s Asda as talks for its merger with British rival Sainsbury falter on competition concerns, The Sunday Times reported. KKR is thought to be working with former Asda boss Tony De Nunzio, now a senior adviser to the buyout firm, the report said. The newspaper, which did not cite its sources, said Asda would have a lower valuation than the 7.3 billion pounds in the Sainsbury’s deal because there would not be the same economies of scale. The report cited a source close to Walmart. A spokesperson for Asda could not immediately be reached for comment. | loganair

22/2/2019 17:52 | "horrific performance of our privately owned utility companies" Examples being? Water companies seem to be performing fine. Fresh clean drinking water on tap - £1 per day Waste / Sewage collection £1 per day. Electricity - Supply whenever you need it. price fluctuates according to cost of inputs. Now if we didnt levy these ridiculous Green taxes, subsidise Wind/solar, and actually had a proper energy policy for the last 30 years rather than sourcing from Norway/France/Russia et al (and built our own power stations) we wouldnt have such problems as we now do. Couple absence of energy policy to unfettered immigration and youve a demand/supply equation that results in higher prices!!!! Railways - concur. Telcom - Disagree. I remember waiting 2-3 months plus to get a telephone back in the 70's/80's. Far quicker, far more efficient now. PFI NHS side - Agree. Waste of bloody money and done very poorly, by Labour. Ditto IRV/Carillion. And Capita.(Armed forces recruitment et al) Shockingly inept | wbecki
22/2/2019 13:23 | I'm pretty sure Labour have no plans to nationalise supermarkets, however the horrific performance of our privately owned utility companies, railways, PFI and the shambles of Carillion and Interserve certainly provides an excellent case for nationalisation, of that there can be little doubt.......... | ladeside
22/2/2019 11:10 | Never mind, they'll all come good when Mr Corbyn nationalises them. The Daily Mirror being the voice of the Labour party will no doubt signal its approval. | vaneric1
22/2/2019 11:02 | Asda, Sainsbury's Tesco AND Morrisons voted worst supermarkets by customers | philanderer
20/2/2019 18:08 | Market report: Tesco was "sitting pretty" said analysts at Jefferies, even though they see the best possible outcome by the CMA's 30 April deadline would be for a merger to be allowed with very extensive remedies. "In our view the consequent reduction in scale players from four to three, and concurring curtailment of SBRY/ASDA's gross synergies, would be accretive to TSCO's investor attractions. But the likely scenario depicted by the CMA's initial findings is also encouraging." | philanderer
20/2/2019 09:54 | It was all very odd this morning on CNBC business live.Ten odd minutes before the opening bell in London, they called Tesco and Morrisons share price to open lower.I was a bit surprised by this,i would have thought the possible calling off of the Sainsbury/Asda merger, leaving Tesco the largest food retailer, was a big positive for Tesco and its share price Sell on the news might be the motivation for the CNBC headline, but medium and long term the merger news,or lack of it, surely must be positive for Tesco imho.Sometimes markets appear to behave totally irrationally.I see the Tesco share price has returned to its last night close price. | redbaron10
20/2/2019 08:15 | SBRY merger with ASDA in trouble I suppose were being dragged down with them but in the long run must be good for TSCO. | nathdani

17/2/2019 16:22 | Still waiting Loganair. I've no issue with people expressing their opinion but you need to back up comments like "I'm not surprised as Tesco is becoming one of the most expensive supermarkets". | toon1966
15/2/2019 18:51 | I do not care what anyone voted - stay or leave the EU. What I hate is the Chairman, John Allan becoming a politician with his own Project Fear. Dave says nothing which is far more professional Cannot wait until Allen is gone. Mind you he is better than the previous Chairman but who would not have been. | konradpuss
15/2/2019 13:44 | Market report.. Tesco was up 1.7% after the UK's largest supermarket said its adoption new financial reporting standard IFRS 16 will have no real economic effect on the business, but it will increase reported operating profit while reducing pretax profit. Tesco added that the new reporting standard on accounting for leases will not affect sales or cash flow, nor how the business is run. Alliance News | philanderer

14/2/2019 16:49 | Loganair - please name some of the 'many products Tesco are more expensive'. | toon1966
14/2/2019 11:17 | I'm not surprised as Tesco is becoming one of the most expensive supermarkets. Non foot products are now cheaper at Boots or Superdrug then they are at Tesco and on many products Tesco are more expensive then both Sainburys and even Waitrose. | loganair |
