09/5/2017 22:05 | #19953 I went there today. About 10 council workers cleaning up. New 'Biffa' wheelie bins. All sorted. BTW what the article DIDN'T 'say' is that the problem was 200 yds from the store at the edge of the car park.... doesn't make such good news... | prambigear
09/5/2017 21:50 | Part from BBC news on underpaying staff on the back of JL news:Other firms to have fallen foul of pay rules include Tesco, which said in March said it was compensating 140,000 current and former staff after a payroll error. Some of its staff were paid less than the National Living Wage after contributing part of their salary to pensions, childcare and cycle to work schemes. Tesco promised most workers up to £40 each in compensation, although said some could get much more. | anony mous

08/5/2017 11:56 | bookers is only worth around 2.3b and no more | portside1
06/5/2017 12:49 | Portside1 - the debt of £700M you keep referring to is listed under 'current liabilities' in Bookers 2016 financial report. This sum is owed to creditors which could be banks but also Suppliers of products which Booker have not yet paid for and which would have to be paid within one year. Having 'liabilities' of this nature is quite natural. Bookers do not have any long term debt . It is quite convenient of you not to mention Bookers net assets of £590M.... | toon1966
05/5/2017 14:26 | It's not just the UK that suffers from Foot and Mouth. There are stories across the globe for 100's of years let alone 1000's. The UK suffered in 2001 and this was nasty, but it also affected Turkey around 2011 I think it was and the challenge being how easy it is to transfer the disease across the world on anything from meat to clothing to Hay etc. Europe has just as many issues due to the ease of access to the Land Mass and borders. | capeview
05/5/2017 14:09 | Think there is a lot of overhyped statements about local butchers and British meat - BSE and foot and mouth anyone? Poor practices certainly lead to the first was much pretty much just the UK. Most mass food poisoning cases in the UK also stem from local butchers. Used mine for beef but the local supermarket for everything else. | dr biotech
05/5/2017 13:31 | m/s meat is top class | portside1
05/5/2017 13:25 | Thats what I like about our local butcher. One deals with the meat and another deals with the cash, then they wash hands and change if needed. Plus they run there own farm too. Try Waitrose for there meat too, it's comparable price wise to M&S and sometimes even better value plus the extra deals you get on the meats that I don't ever seem to see at M&S?? | capeview
05/5/2017 12:11 | Cape, yeah, Asda has been off our meat list for a couple of years after a few quality problems, let alone their terrible attitude when I went in to inform them about it. We're shopping more and more in M&s for meat. Expensive, but always very good quality. Local multi-award winning butchers (aren't they all!) sell good meat but handle the meat, then money, then meat again, so don't go there anymore. | pierre oreilly
05/5/2017 12:03 | Pierre, when they are trying to sell Alaskan Salmon as Fresh but Farmed it's not exactly Fresh Alaskan Salmon. It's a shame really, because some of the other meats I've had from Tesco are really good, but I mainly buy from the local butcher now or Waitrose. Don't go anywhere near ASDA as never been too keen on the fish there, poor stories on the chicken and the meats always look a bit naff. | capeview |
