It has not been a single 7 year jump - it started as a gradual process over the past few years with the age rising gradually from 60, starting (I think without checking) about 5 or 6 years ago. As noted above, the process was started under the last Labour government.

I think my other half's point was the 7 year jump and no warning is a tad unreasonable.
A gentle increase would be understandable

@Fangorn2
Me too, there's an awful lot of widows about.
There is though the fact that many of them only get a smaller pension on the strength of their husband's contributions due to their time out for child bearing and housekeeping.

@Ignoble

The increase in the age when pensions can be drawn has been on the cards for a very long time, even before the Con/Libdem coalition so voting for the others ain't going to change that.

It's not going to bother me.......I'm 82 now.

@Ignoble,

I've always wondered why Women's retirement age is/was earlier than mens given they (nearly always) live far longer than men.

My wife has voted blue all her life
Putting the woman's retirement age from 60 to 67 ....no more Tory
A gentle increase over the years would be reasonable
7 years at £5500 or whatever the pension stands at is £37000 or so that she loses out on or ,at least, that is how she sees it !
Interesting point she makes, imho

Just out of interest Portside1 how did you work out the 'extra 2 billion shares' or where did you find this information? Amended 14.39 - just found the information I needed. But why use the word 'diluted', I appreciate Tesco are paying a premium of 12%, but the enlarged Tesco Group will in future include Booker revenues (now over £5 Billion).

Portside1 said 'do you figs' - interesting from someone who does not understand a balance sheet and what is and is not 'debt'. I don't believe there would be any take-overs/mergers if every CEO followed Portside1's simplistic view. He may want to think along the lines of Booker becoming an asset, creating increased revenues, profits, free cash flow etc for the Tesco Group. Just my opinion.

The above so 174m profit so it would take tesco over 25 years at that profit to just break even , 10b shares in issue so div will never again get over 4p at most do you figs

I noticed Booker produced a solid set of financials. Revenues exceeding £5 Billion for the first time, 15% jump in full year earnings. All in line with analyst's expectations.
