22/10/2010 08:58 | Wishful thinking on social housng isn't going to fool anyone - volumes will drop dramatically. But so what? There is no money being made on building those fleapits, no margins to speak of. Better to get out of it and have a larger rented sector with ownership of 'normal' properties in the hands of the mean and nasty private sector, paying normal prices for normal houses, resulting in higher volumes of normal margins for housebuilders. I wouldn't worry about banks not lending, at the rate they're building back up their capital, it will be less than a year before the whole money-lending drive starts again. It's cyclical, and we're just about at the bottom of the cycle.
