So I'm guessing the board and co. have stopped drawing their salaries which make up 80% of the profits before distribution here then ?

I think it's going to be a long haul before we get out of this current predicament. I can't see a V shaped recovery in the economy. I suspect more people will be staying in the UK for holidays if we are lucky to get any. So perhaps more domestic expenditure will help companies keep their heads above water.
We have to wait for a vaccine probably before normality resumes. So 18 months probably.
With Government debt at a huge level there may well be a few years of austerity ahead.

amt,

You can miss interpret my statements if you so wish.

However, if you require a black swan event to occur in order to prove your wisdom and sagacity I think that puts you on the same level of contorted logic as Jeremy Corbyn.

Maddox Glad you agree best not to pay the dividend. As I said I don't particularly want a dividend paid but if it is going to be paid then why not buy back shares at this reduced price instead.
I made a point many months ago best to build up cash in case of a downturn in the economy. I stated that while many were pressing for a big payout, so not with the benefit of hindsight. Glad the Directors took a prudent view and didn't bow to pressure from shareholders. As I say best to let those at the sharp end make the decisions.

In this period of Covid19 lock down there is likely to be increased demand for Tandem's products, specifically bicycles and outdoor products. I'm more interested to know that they will have the working capital, i.e. the cash, to scale-up to meet this demand should orders materialise.

I'm happy to see the dividend deferred - for this reason or to fix any disruption arising - funding the pension isn't exactly top-priority atm.

Alternative is to buy back shares and gain from recovery that way

While the markets are in a state of collapse its a good time to invest in its own shares. I don't want a dividend, I am interested in long term capital gain.

Hmmm, cutting the dividend to preserve cash and then sticking it in the pension fund - you two are having a laugh arn't you?

Given the circumstances perhaps there is time to cancel the dividend. I doubt anyone would complain. Cash is king in this situation.

Maddox, I agree don't think the dividend payment was a good idea, I'd pile into paying off the pension deficit- good opportunity to get a huge surplus once corona is out the way and normality returns.
Corona WILL heavily effect everything for tandem this year, all big box stores are shut currently and its easter sales kick off time! Though there could be an upside on the last quarter, however this will never make up for lost spring/summer sales.

amt,

My concern is that they haven't given such a reassuring comment and quite frankly in the face of such uncertainty I not sure that they could.

I'm amused by the idea that I'm in anyway running the business.

I'm unclear as whether Covid19 presents a threat or an opportunity for Tandem?

Either way, and changing my view, I'm now not sure suspending payment of the dividend wouldn't be a good idea until things become more clear.

Excellent results and big increase in dividend giving confidence in the year ahead despite the impact of the Coronavirus. Current low share price seems ridiculous.
Don't know how anyone can say jam tomorrow, they have had a great year. 20% increase in turnover, 35% increase in op profit.
