06/2/2006 11:51 | The company is impressive. Working in one of the fastest growing economies in the world. | wassapper

02/2/2006 13:43 | I can advise that their broker Westhouse Securities disposed of them through random institutions. Could be anyone! I agree it is an excellent investment. However, if only 50% of the stock is for short term gain, it would represent a quick profit of 7m @£0.40 = £2.8m. The institutions are only there to make money afterall. | bicc
01/2/2006 18:58 | As long as the money was placed with institutions they will be holding for the long term. If the money was placed with the likes of Hoodless or City Equites then I would agree with you but I doubt that very much ! Personally, I see this as an excellent long term hold as it gives me exposure to one of the fastest growing countries in the world. | gardenboy
01/2/2006 17:01 | Saturn5 - Same point I was trying to make earlier!! Which "gardenboy" couldn't grasp. Tactical decision needed for 3rd. | bicc
01/2/2006 09:41 | I think that when dealing in the new shares starts on Feb 3, the share price will fall | saturn5
01/2/2006 00:22 | good article on growth in Kazakhstan, | gardenboy
31/1/2006 11:58 | can't really understand what your gripe is about - the share price is up! | gardenboy
31/1/2006 11:56 | I assume this current flurry is caused by the latest share offer. This implies that the RNS knowledge was known 48 hrs prior to its issue. Still surprised to see price climbing, unless the MMs are widening the margin to maximise their profit when they come to sell. All in all, I can see the private investor carrying the cost of this, either through price stagnation or a drift back to earlier price stages. Either way I'm not happy with this process. No wonder PIs are less involved in share dealing than previous decades, when an imbalance like this exists. | bicc
31/1/2006 08:23 | Director happy to buy, RNS Number:6695X Steppe Cement Limited 31 January 2006 Steppe Cement Ltd Acquisition of Shares by a Director John Richardson, who is a director of Steppe Cement Ltd ("the Company"), has acquired a total of 500,000 fully paid ordinary shares in the Company at a price of US$1.50 each as part of the placement of 14 million shares announced on 30 January 2006. Dealing in the placement shares is expected to commence on 3 February 2006. | gardenboy
30/1/2006 15:48 | BICC, no I'm afraid not - this is not an open offer - the usual argument being that open offers cost small companies more than an institutional placing - but the fact that the placing has been well received by the market is good for existing shareholders so not so bad. | gardenboy
30/1/2006 15:27 | So if the issue is offered at $1.50 (approx £0.86)they will be discounted by a considerable amount. Will the poor private invester be able to partake? Any ideas. | bicc
30/1/2006 12:36 | seems to have been received well by the market, RNS Number:6006X Steppe Cement Limited 30 January 2006 Steppe Cement Ltd US$21 million Share Placing Completed Steppe Cement Ltd ("the Company") is pleased to announce it has placed 14 million new shares at an issue price of US$1.50 each, raising a total of US$21 million. The proceeds will be used to fund the equity component of the cost of expanding the Company's cement production capacity, which was announced during December 2005. The placing was made primarily to institutional investors through the Company's broker, Westhouse Securities LLP ("Westhouse"). The placing is subject to the placing agreement between the Company and Westhouse becoming unconditional and not being terminated prior to the issue of the shares. Dealing in the placement shares is expected to commence on 3 February 2006 and subsequent to the issue of the placing shares the Company will have a total of 114 million shares on issue. | gardenboy
18/1/2006 11:20 | Not sure you can judge the economics in Kazakhstan in the same way as a western industrial environment. Although cement is a commodity, a large % of the cost is transport and handling. Therefore, Steppe's price is relatively protected within its own domestic market and de-mothballing the 2 plants for refurbishment must be financially acceptable or lenders will be hard to find. IMO | bicc
18/1/2006 07:14 | Yes I can - from their prospectus. The average ex-factory price was $73 per tonne in Kaza. Average cost of production for them was £24 per tonne in July 05. | wassapper
18/1/2006 06:22 | Ok present international price of cement is about £28 / tonne. So if their maximum capacity is 3 million tonne / yr by 2008 (company estimates) = £84 million. If they make 10% profit per tonne then that's £8.4 profit per year. Company presently valued at £97 million so I can't see a lot of potential here. Anyone else like to have a go?? | serotine
17/1/2006 17:04 | they do it by the tonne!! | wassapper
17/1/2006 17:01 | Hi All, does anyone know how muc a bag of cement sells for on big project...am trying to establish the potential profit company can make | serotine
16/1/2006 15:03 | with the explosive growth in Kazakhstan, I'm surprised there is not more interest here - "in a gold rush don't forget to invest in those selling the shovels" | gardenboy
24/11/2005 09:20 | Let this little pause run its course then have another look. | wassapper
24/11/2005 09:06 | it's amazing and I seriously considered buying some at 50p, but after reading the admission document I decided it was too risky as the plant was very old and health and safety regulations in Kazakhstan are non existent. How I regret that now. | travisriley |
