12/11/2018 18:35 | pinkfoot I reckon that they will be announcing about £70 million of contracts, half of the ones in procurement, before year-end. Of those, the Philippines is the most obvious. The two in the Middle East next. Vietnam? South America? As regards warnings, I think that the risk is more that the broker upgrades to whatever number for this year on contract news and then they come in lower. I don't see any risk of them missing this year's current forecast. £20 million, is it? Cashflow has been discussed already. BTW this is a forum to discuss SRT. No need for a blog and any research that you may do will assuredly be appreciated. | lavalmy
12/11/2018 18:18 | All good stuff-you and Countryman should have your own dedicated blog! Anyway, what’s your view on contracts before 31/3 as another warning would not be pleasant | pinkfoot2
12/11/2018 16:46 | The new head of Bakamla was officially appointed last Friday, although he has been active for a couple of weeks. This pretty much refreshes the top brass, so the corruption scandal can no longer be linked to anyone still there. There is a trial ongoing of the head of the parliamentary committee that approved the budget that involved the payments - the prosecutor is asking for 10 years for him, a lot more than the others. Maybe because of his position? He has hinted that the President's relations were in on the deal somehow which seems unlikely, but that might well end up in an increased sentence for him. They still cannot find the orchestrator of the scam, but the local head of Rohde & Schwarz is probably next up on charges - he is not allowed to leave the country. Overall, I think it has probably blown over, but it would be madness to award a $400 million contract to a tiny Swiss company with no real maritime experience. Who knows? They do have very well placed contacts and Tucker did mention at the AGM that they (Qnective) were still discussing things with the Swiss export credit people. Nothing before the elections in April is my view. Funny, in one announcement, SRT said that they didn't expect to recognise any revenues on this until the end of this financial year at the earliest. At the fund raising, it looked like this had dropped into the planning stage and there is mention of a £75 million project which I assume is this. So not dead, but not imminent, but what real purpose has Qnective? | lavalmy
09/11/2018 18:01 | EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT DELEGATION EXPRESSES APPRECIATION FOR VIETNAM'S EFFORTS AGAINST IUU FISHING November 09, 2018, 07:55 AM Fisheries Committee MEPs visited Hanoi and Vietnamese coastal provinces last week, to look into Vietnam's efforts in fighting illegal, unregulated and unreported (IUU) fishing. The seven member delegation led by Gabriel Mato (EPP, ES), which also included MEPs Ricardo Serrao Santos (S&D, PT), Antonio Marinho e Pinto (ALDE, PT), Ulrike Rodust (S&D, DE), Jens Gieseke (EPP, DE), Veronica Lope Fontagné (EPP, ES) and Sylvie Goddyn (EFDD, FR), held a number of high-level meetings with the Vietnamese Prime Minister, Government Ministers, the Vice President of the National Assembly, parliamentarians and relevant Vietnamese authorities, who spared no effort in welcoming the EP delegation and present the newly adopted legislation and enforcement measures. MEPs also met other stakeholders, such as the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP). Other companies and fishermen associations provided the Members with first-hand information on the challenges and constraints of the Vietnamese fisheries and aquaculture sector. | countryman5
09/11/2018 12:05 | A closer look at this new tender confirms that it is mainly a re-tender of the some of the items in the previous one, the bidding date for which was 26 September (2018-15 is the reference document). There are some changes to the requirements and the corresponding prices, which must mean that they have to tender afresh for these bits. There were four lots to bid on in the previous one, this one has two corresponding to the bulk of the previous Lot 2 and all of Lot 4 - lot four is the back-up generator, two is the room etc including anti-static flooring. Lot 1 (the back-up data centre) and Lot 3 (on-going maintenance) are not being redone. My best guess is that a fair amount of the work on Lots Two and Four has already been done and that any final adjustments to the project which have become apparent during the installation have been agreed but legally need to be 'tendered' but retrospectively so to speak. [Edit: I should have given an example. The initial one had Installation of two (2) units’ double swing frameless tempered glass door for VMS office main Entrance and Director's office entrance the new one has Installation of one (1) unit double swing frameless tempered glass door for VMS office main Entrance and Director's office entrance (Main entrance Door 2.4mH x 1.0mW x 10mmT, tempered glass)] Our journalist friend would be spitting blood if he learned of this, but fortunately he seems more inclined to regurgitate what he gets in the post than actively researching anything himself. | lavalmy
09/11/2018 11:27 | C5- thanks - just wanted to redress the balance a bit ;¬) Does anyone know if TP's still around? It might be interesting to have one of those little flags in the header that show where visitors are coming from. | supernumerary
09/11/2018 10:59 | No delays at all. They are cracking on with it 'ESTABLISHMENT OF COMPUTING FACILITIES/ VESSEL MONITORING CENTER AND SUPPLY AND INSTALLATION OF GENERATOR SET TO BE INSTALLED AT THE NEW BFAR BUILDING' new out today. Bids opened 28 November, to be finished within 70 days. There will no doubt be a company lined up for it. They must have done whatever they have to do with SRT before doing this. | lavalmy
09/11/2018 10:03 | That article is quite bizarre. A few years ago I went through the process many times of talking to (in my case) project managers in a companies and arriving at specifications for parts of projects that still needed to go out to tender. The point being that our product happened to have several advantages over others. So the conversation basically consisted of us saying "would you like this as well?.... and this etc." To which the answer was "yes". At which point the tender specifications for the project put competitors out of the running. That's just the tough competitive world. To view the tenders as being made for us in some way would be ridiculous and would open up a strange world of issuing tenders for projects without talking to anyone in the tendering companies, or having any knowledge of their product advantages. You never know who is in whose pockets when it comes to publishing. | yump
09/11/2018 09:11 | PITA though, it wouldn't surprise me if this delays things a little....but then again I have no idea to what extent the Philo guys want to appear squeaky clean. Still hoping for the multiple contracts signed before Xmas..... | fredfishcake
09/11/2018 08:54 | Supermummy. Well said. Absolutely spot on. | countryman5
08/11/2018 22:14 | Well I can't believe that anybody takes the wretched countryman seriously. He's surely the most ill-informed, ignorant, clueless poster on advfn, and what he knows about SRT could be written on the back of a very small postage stamp. His investing record in the company speaks for itself - clearly nobody in their right mind would trust a word he says. That such an ignorant low-life should be quoted in public documents anywhere as an arbiter of opinion is utterly disgraceful, and I'm pleased that all right-thinking men and women ignore everything he's ever said or written. I can only hope that responsible maritime authorities worldwide will ignore the mad rantings of this anonymous bulletin board poster who clearly is only trying to push his own self-serving, profit-seeking agenda. In that spirit I have absolute confidence that the Philippine authorities will follow the spirit of their official procedures to the letter and take no notice of this obvious charlatan. | supernumerary
08/11/2018 16:53 | I find it quite funny really. Elbit Systems is Israel's biggest defence company so no doubt squeaky clean. And all they can come up with is a screen shot from ADVFN, of all places, talking about a completely different tender, albeit featuring one of our top guns C5. They probably googled. Some way to stay on top of what is happening in the MDA realm! This Pinol character BTW is a sort of mini Duterte. I am not sure if he too murders drug dealers, but is probably not too fussed about the how things get done as long as they get done. Remember: Walls have ears. | lavalmy

08/11/2018 10:42 | Of course, there is also the risk of a yellow card or worse and immense damage to the fisheries sector. Philo 2 was part of the package that persuaded the EU the rescind the yellow card. I do note that the Singaporean company doesn't understand the need for RADAR (and infra-red, though they don't mention that) which is a point I have made previously, viz that this is likely to be a building block of a larger project, although useful as well to the BFAR to identify all vessels in the busier ports if they suspect some fisheries related contraventions are taking place. I doubt the BFAR will look kindly on companies telling them what they do or do not need after they have been working on this project since 2015. | lavalmy
08/11/2018 09:20 | Agreed LaValmy. Here we are almost one year later. Disappointing really. Especially for the IUU fishing and the management by the Philippines government of their strategically important maritime domain. SRT are a technically excellent and ethically very correct company. I am sure BFAR will be very pleased to work with super-qualified SRT if and when they award us the contract (which we could have been awarded many months ago if the French government had been more supportive to the Philippines). | yumyum
08/11/2018 09:04 | The posts quoted refer of course to the tender which closed in December 2017. It would be surprising that if SRT got to rhe "Notice to Proceed" stage, entailing performance bonds etc, that SRT would be unaware of what precisely it was contracted to perform. So it shouldn't be a surprise that SRT knew what was required when the exact same tender was re-issued, without the stipulation that the company be French. One of the companies is Israeli, the other Singaporean. Neither seems to have much of a clue about the project, nor any experience with AIS, which is the open source technology that is required. It is good to hear that the 'BFAR-TWG stopped entertaining inquiries.' | lavalmy

06/11/2018 17:36 | Haha. Classic. Thank you LaValmy. IUU fishing needs to be stamped out and MDM needs to be effectively done; urgently; everywhere. I wonder which company can provide that sort of system and equipment..... | yumyum
06/11/2018 16:57 | Mr Mato is Spanish BTW. The Vietnamese might reply with this: "Today, Spanish authorities announced the arrest of almost 80 people involved in an extensive operation of illegal bluefin tuna trade, fished in Italy and Malta. The operation, led by EUROPOL, involved a large network of fishing companies and distributors, including one of Europe’s biggest seafood farming companies, the Spanish Ricardo Fuentes and Sons Group.' | lavalmy
Since then, and although the dialogue between the EU and Vietnam on illegal fishing has been regular, the new Vietnamese Fisheries Law, which will come into force from 2019, is still far from complying with international standards and implementing regulations. currently developed require substantial improvements. In this sense, both monitoring, control and surveillance, as well as fleet management are extremely weak and fragmented at the regional level, which does not guarantee the traceability of fishery products and has repercussions on the credibility of the catch certification system for exports to the Union. Gabriel Mato has acknowledged "the remarkable progress made by Vietnam with the implementation of adequate policies" and has assured that "the EU's will is to continue working with this region that has an important level of aquaculture production and extractive fishing", and is the third world exporter of fishery products, only behind China and Norway. In addition, the country will soon benefit from a reduction in tariff rates to export its fishery products to the European Union market thanks to the forthcoming entry into force of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, currently in the process of ratification.' | lavalmy

05/11/2018 16:40 | Can’t disagree Lav-I would just like to see some action before the usual year end worries. | pinkfoot2
05/11/2018 15:33 | pinkfoot Nobody will be paying upfront, but that doesn't matter because of the financing arrangements that have already been made. The Philippines could be this week. With the Middle East, you get no advance warning and absolutely no advance payment, but could happen anytime. Tucker was pretty clear that they have extremely good visibility and I, for one, believe him. It is nice, though, to get third party confirmation about progress, which is why some of us keep an eye out for related news. Like the chap complaining about the tender being written for SRT. Makes Tucker's assertions quite convincing, don't you think? | lavalmy |
