What went wrong?

Well despite warnings by myself and niggle this is what the BBC says:

Hopefully investors will be careful of which posts to take notice of in future.

Debenhams now in administration Ashley Sports Direct will have to have a further write down of its investment:

Shares to be cancelled tomorrow:

"The 240-year-old retailer added that its shares have been suspended since this morning and will be cancelled with effect from April 10.

Debenhams rejects Mike Ashley’s revised £200m bid, administration likely
Mike Ashley calls for Debenhams board to take lie detector test amid £150m offer
Sports Direct urges Debenhams shareholders to resist £200m refinancing plan
Debenhams completes £200m refinancing, restructuring imminent
The pre-pack deal effectively means all of Debenhams’ previous shareholders – including Mike Ashley’s Sports Direct, which had a near-30 per cent stake in the department store – will now lose their equity."

Odey the big winner here.

Q

You get around the block these days checking on the competition.

Just thought I would walk round the block on a night when I am sick of hearing the word BREXIT.

No doubt we will meet again soon outside another retailer.

As a SPD shareholder I don't want MA to be successful in his bid for Debenhams I would sooner swallow the £83 mill hit,I think Debenhams is a basket case riddled with bond holder debt, Also wouldn't surprise me in the least that Debs board have been running Debs insolvent like HOF board was.Just feel like Debenhams is opening Pandora's box, Feel sorry for Debs shareholders they have been screwed

If DEB falls without SPD and MA then there will be less competition for HofF

If he pulls this off he almost doubles the turnover of his business

he buys an additional 2.5 billion of sales for £ 60 million.

the bond and debt holders will have to take a haircut - of that, I have no doubt

FYI

Findel, Ashley's other listed takeover target, has published its shareholder circular urging investors to reject Sports Direct's 161p offer which it claims "is opportunistic and undervalues" the company

If he takes it over can he launch a CVA, or is that off the table once it becomes part of sports direct. Maybe there will be a way, I doubt he will just take on all that debt when debs trading is falling year on year. It's cheap but he'll have a plan.

LOL! Yes but the difference is with his HoF purchase for example, he wasn't legally obligated to repay debts as he bought the assets from the Administrator.

This is not the case here, Debs is effectively owned by the banks and bondholders now as they hold most of the cards.

You say MA knows what he is doing but SPD have lost over £100m on their Debs investment so far. The SPD shares are also 70% off their original price, they should have one of SPD's yellow tickets on them!

UVA Debs has hundreds of millions of pounds of debt which SPD has to immediately repay if SPD takes Debs over. You are confusing market cap with enterprise value.

I read a report that Mike Ashley and Sports direct take 3p of every non-food £ spent on the high street.

And that is before Debenhams

What did I say .. he is going to take it over .. and quite right too.

it makes sense to take over Debenhams.. he will get it for next to nothing .. and then he will take a sword to it reshape it .

What is to stand in his way ? Debenhams has run out of road

Yep. Ashley called a shareholder's meeting only to discover Sports Direct didn't own the shares, a monumnetal error. By the time they were transferred all momentum and credibility was lost.

The facts are Debs offered Ashley a number of investment options but he ignored them and insisted on this absurd notion of installing himself as Chief Executive, which given that SPD own HoF was ludicrous.

This is a monumental balls up. Why on earth did they not initiate a CVA and then after slashing costs try to raise capital. I bet even Ashly would pump some money in after a restructuring. It just looks like they are running it into the ground without a fight. As for Ashley I think he's just trying to force their hand, I doubt he wants to take control of debs, it makes no sense.
