The results RNS is upbeat in our USA sports betting prospects but nothing started so far."In Connecticut, we believe that we will have a strong direct-to-consumer sports betting offering for our brick-and-mortar and web/mobile betting services. We also believe that we are very well positioned to offer a competitive integrated sports and race betting solution in other US states."

Two US States have recently passed sports betting legislation and are now taking sports bets: Delaware and New Jersey. Sportech has long operated racetrack Tote betting in both these two States and will be well-placed to offer fixed-odds sports betting on sports generally through modern terminals already in place as well as mobile apps already in use. Mobile betting will probably replace terminals over time, but the Tote operator will likely remain as one, as in the UK. You may find this 6-page article of interest. There are three Tote operators in the USA, Sportech, AmTote and United Tote. The latter two are owned by racetrack owners with Sportech being the only independent. According to the article, Sportech operates the Tote on around 28 horse racing tracks, a bit more than a third of the 65 tracks listed. https://www.amwestentertainment.com/images/amwest_pdf/BH38-39_ToteFeature.pdf

It looks like William Hill has won the glory of taking the first bet.Gov. Phil Murphy signed a bill legalizing sports betting in New Jersey on Monday, nearly a month after the Supreme Court ruled that the law banning sports in the United States was unconstitutional.Monmouth Park will begin sports wagering on Thursday morning, with officials, including Murphy placing the first wagers at 10:30 a.m., with the William Hill Sports Book then opening to the general public. https://www.app.com/story/sports/2018/06/11/nj-sports-betting-gov-murphy-signs-bill/691026002/

TRENTON – Today, Governor Phil Murphy signed Assembly Bill 4111, allowing sports betting at New Jersey casinos and racetracks for certain professional and collegiate sports or athletic events."Today, we're finally making the dream of legalized sports betting a reality for New Jersey," said Governor Murphy. "I'm thrilled to sign Assembly Bill 4111 because it means that our casinos in Atlantic City and our racetracks throughout our state can attract new business and new fans, boosting their own long-term financial prospects. This is the right move for New Jersey and it will strengthen our economy."Under the legislation, a licensed casino or racetrack may accept wagers at a sports wagering lounge at its respective premises, and can petition to operate a sports pool at a temporary facility during the construction of a sports wagering lounge. In addition, licensed casinos and racetracks can seek to operate an online sports pool beginning 30 days after the effective date of the bill.https://www.nj.gov/governor/news/news/562018/approved/20180611b_sportsBetting.shtml

Sportech Racing has supplied Monmouth Park for over 17 years. More recently we supplied mobile wagering via phone apps and Off-Track wagering OTW. A bit of history from a 2013 release: " April 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Sportech Racing LLC ("Sportech Racing"), a division of Sportech PLC (LSE: SPO), announces that it has entered into an agreement with Darby Development LLC, manager and operator of Monmouth Park Racetrack, to provide pari-mutuel wagering technology and services to Monmouth Park and Favorites at Woodbridge off-track wagering facility, both in New Jersey.Monmouth Park – home of the $1,000,000, Grade I, Haskell Invitational – has been a Sportech Racing customer for 13 years under a contract with the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority. Sportech Racing will continue to provide central pari-mutuel wagering services from the company's Quantum Data Center located in New Jersey. It will also continue to provide wagering devices at Monmouth Park and the Woodbridge OTW, as well as on-going service and support. In addition, Sportech will install the Sportech On-Track Mobile Wagering service to allow guests of Monmouth Park to conveniently and securely wager using their own smart phone or tablet when visiting the track. Robert Kulina, President & CEO of Monmouth Park, said: "We have had a strong working relationship with Sportech Racing for many years and have been very satisfied with the level of service and commitment they have shown for racing in New Jersey. We look forward to offering our guests some new features and benefits this summer, including the new On-Track Mobile Wagering service."Andrew Gaughan, Managing Director Sportech Racing, said: "Sportech Racing is committed to the health of the racing industry in New Jersey and is delighted to have reached this agreement with our valued customer, Darby Development. Sportech is committed to serving our customers and we are backing that commitment with investments in innovations that will benefit all Sportech Racing customers. We look forward to embarking on this path of innovation with Monmouth Park and Favorites at Woodbridge."

Great news for Sportech who operates Monmouth Park."Former state Sen. Raymond Lesniak, who led the fought for sports betting for eight years, predicted it will help turn around Atlantic City, where casino gambling had been in decline. The state's casinos and racetracks would be able to offer sports betting once the governor signs the bill."Today is the day that New Jersey gets the same benefits that Las Vegas does," he said. "During the Super Bowl or the NACC Tournament, in Las Vegas you can't get a hotel room and Atlantic City is a ghost town. This will change that."Monmouth Park Racetrack has been particularly vocal in its desire to begin taking bets on Friday, hoping to cash in on anticipated large racing crowds this weekend. Lesniak predicted the track will start taking bets at 5 p.m. Friday, assuming the bill is signed by then."Read more here:

We are at a recent 3-year high, if we add back the 29p distribution in November and ignore the confusing buy-back of around 10p in March 2017. Add just the 29p divi back and the share price is doing modestly well at around 109p old money. SPO has not yet recovered from the recent huge write-offs by the new Board to clear the decks for a sale or, if no sale, to make the books look a lot easier to perform in the future. Having taken us down to near 30p with its bombshell, private investor confidence is still severely shaken.I see the insti investors are spotting the potential before the private investors. In the USA, Sportech needs to have confidence that it can compete with the big players on service if not price. Like all smaller companies have to.All big companies were small once.

On the GVC board Logan posted a useful update on the progress in the leading USA States. Connecticut we expect to be good for SPO and we know SPO is named as one of four proposed operators in the draft legislation,New Jersey is also encouraging with legislation believed to be imminent (days away). Sportech is well-placed in NJ with over 2,200 terminals in place and already processing over $900 million in New Jersey bets. Sportech has long-claimed it has a 'unique' position across the USA to benefit from sports betting because of its existing contracts and infrastructure (terminals) already in place."NEW JERSEY: Legislation authorizing sports books at casinos and horse racing tracks could be approved as soon as this week."
