15/6/2004 22:22 | summary of results ...... Immediate release: 14 June 2004 Sports & Leisure Group Plc Preliminary Results for the year ended 31 December 2003 CHAIRMAN'S STATEMENT Our results for the year ended 31 December 2003 show that we made a loss before goodwill amortisation and taxation, of ?71,000 (2002: profit ?391,000) on turnover of ?2,404,000 million (2002: ?2,370,000). After goodwill amortisation, the loss before taxation amounted to ?426,000(2002: profit ?163,000). The principal reason for the losses was that our share of the net profit of the Sports Network partnership reduced from ?714,000 to ?374,000. This was almost entirely due to depressed television revenues from the US. The two other main strands of the Sports Network revenue continued to grow, particularly revenue from ticket sales, and in July 2003, Sports Network announced the renewal of its exclusive contract with BSkyB for a further two year period. The Sports Network internet operation, www.frankwarren.tv, is now approaching 1 million hits per month and is fast becoming one of the main sources of Sports Network's ticket revenue. Sports Network is trading well in 2004 and, with the promotions that have already taken place and those now scheduled, we are confident about Sports Network's prospects for the current year. During 2003, we increased our interest in Sports Network from 22 per cent. to 26 per cent. As announced on 12 February 2004, we reached an agreement in principle to acquire the remaining 74 per cent. of Sport Network which we do not already own. The transaction will be a reverse under the AIM rules and, accordingly, trading in the Company's shares was suspended on that date. We are in the course of concluding the arrangements with regard to the purchase of the remaining interests of Sports Network and we anticipate being able to give shareholders further details shortly. 24/5/2004 19:09 | A company called Arthur Shaw signed up Lennox Lewis with a big dream of showing the build up to his fights, training camps etc over the internet (a lean back TV experience as opposed to a lean forward PC experience). The company had a lot of grand ideas but no money or back up to carry them through, full of hot air. Arthur Shaw shares were suspended in Apil 2003, they are still suspended. I hope SOP don't follow this example. I have shares in SAW and SOP both suspended, great. | teacup | |
