04/2/2011 14:12 | Great News ! Selected as his 'Turkey of the Week' by Paul Hill in Money Week - as clear a buy signal as you can get. I looked at his 'Turkeys' for the first two months of 2010. At the end of the year, only 1 was trading lower than his recommended sell price (and even that had traded way above it during the course of the year); one was up over 100% over the year with 3 up by more than 30% and all of the others up by around 10 - 20%. To think that Money Week, presumably, pay him, and they also recommended his tipping service. Nice work if you can get it !!! | bluebelle
01/2/2011 18:22 | Spectris upgraded to conviction buy from buy at Goldman Sachs, TP raised to 2010p from 1684p. 2010 preliminary results due 25 Feb 2011. | enami
01/2/2011 13:33 | That's interesting : their new target is almost 50% above last night's close and still 40%+ above the price after this morning's rise ! | bluebelle

18/1/2011 10:52 | Funnily enough I used to hold both of those and took profits : CGS, IMI & AVON are other examples. | bluebelle
17/1/2011 17:15 | BlueB - Don't I know it. Other examples WEIR and SENR although I've taken my profits there now. Its remarkable. I'm sure many folks just buy the stock when its an active thread feeling there's safety in numbers when there's no such thing. | broadwood
17/1/2011 08:42 | Often said, broadwood, the less active the thread, the sounder the investment ! | bluebelle
14/1/2011 16:22 | Another deserted thread for a quality stock. Bought in again first thing for the third time. Couple of Brokers upgrades so far but they'll all have to revise their projections. | broadwood

12/11/2010 16:11 | Try changing the spelling mistake in your header! To maintain as a hold seems ludicrous with a statement like that - Panmure's. Despite a strong third quarter report from Spectris, which saw higher sales in all business division and regions, KBC Peel Hunt has retained its 'hold' rating for the stock, though it has bumped up its target price. The instrumentation and controls company anticipate pre-tax profits for the year moderately above the high end of current forecasts. "We expect to upgrade by circa 15% to circa £117m ... versus original consensus of £106m", says analyst Dominic Convey. Peel Hunt's profit projection equates to earnings per share of 77p. "There was a strong recovery in the Test and Measurement segment, where sales increased by 20% compared with the relatively weak prior year period", said Convey. Sales in the US and Asia Pacific were up by 32% and 21% respectively, while European sales have recovered and increased by 7% compared with the same period previously. Net debt at 31 October was £105m, including £42 of acquisitions. The broker maintains its 'hold, with an upgraded target price of 1,200p from 1,100p. | broadwood
12/11/2010 10:31 | Spectris plc ("Spectris" or the "Company"), the productivity-enhanci instrumentation and controls company, today issues its Interim Management Statement for the period from 1 July to 11 November 2010. Since we announced our interim results in August, the rate of revenue growth has increased. On a reported basis, revenues for the four months ended 31 October 2010 increased by 21%, including a contribution from acquisitions of 2% and beneficial effects from currency of 3%. On a like-for-like basis, therefore, revenues were 16% higher than the comparable period last year. We are now seeing higher sales in all business segments and all major regions, on a constant currency basis, compared with the same four-month period last year. There was a strong recovery in the Test and Measurement segment, where sales increased by 20% compared with the relatively weak prior year period. Regionally, group sales in North America were up by 32%, partly as a result of restocking and several project wins in the Test and Measurement segment. Asia Pacific continued to see strong growth, with sales up by 21%, whilst European sales have recovered and were up by 7% compared with the same period last year. The company continues to maintain a good financial position, with operating cash conversion remaining strong. On 6 July 2010, we acquired Zhuhai Omec Instruments Co Ltd, a privately-owned Chinese company specialising in particle characterisation. On 1 October 2010, we completed the acquisition of N-TRON Corporation, a leading manufacturer of rugged industrial networking components, and on the same date we also acquired a distributor in Japan for the Materials Analysis segment. The total cost of these bolt-on acquisitions was GBP42 million. Including the cost of these acquisitions, net debt at 31 October 2010 was GBP105 million. As previously noted, on 20 October 2010, Russell King joined the Board as a non-executive director. Russell was previously Chief Strategy Officer of Anglo American PLC and is a non-executive director of Aggreko plc. On the basis that current trading levels continue, the Board now anticipates that Spectris will report adjusted pre-tax profits for the full year moderately above the high end of analysts' current forecasts1. The temporary cost savings made in 2009 have been progressively reversed in a measured way throughout 2010, and we expect a return to more normal sales growth following this year's recovery. | cambium
30/9/2010 18:58 | Yet another new intra-day high and closing high. I am starting to wonder if there will be an announcement starting with the usual "the company has noted the move in its share price...". | sharw
27/9/2010 12:16 | Just moved to a new all time intraday high. | sharw

26/5/2010 08:03 | BROKER CALL: Spectris downgraded 26 May, 2010 08:16:25 AM Expect the stock to come under pressure as UBS goes to neutral from buy on valuation grounds. Reckons the stock is worth 875p. Analyst Fredric Stahl tells us: 'Since the pull back in the sector Spectris has managed to outperform the sector by more than 5%. However, as part of bear-case scenario analysis, and given relative sector valuations we think it is time to downgrade Spectris.' | enami
