28/1/2013 12:05 | LONDON (ShareCast) - Despite SSE (LSE: SSE.L - news) underperforming the wider UK utility sector on the news that its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is leaving, Credit Suisse (NYSE: CRP - news) has kept its 'outperform' recommendation for the shares, saying that value-creation is expected to continue. | mali12

08/4/2008 22:41 | Utilities powered up by takeover talk The Scotsman By VICTORIA THOMSON CONTINUED speculation over the role foreign utilities companies may play in UK power generation yesterday boosted the share prices of both British Energy and Centrica. Shares in British Energy, which is seen as a key player in the government's plans for a new generation of nuclear power stations, have risenby 30 per cent in the past month amid hopes of a takeover approach. Foreign groups led by EDF of France and Germany's RWE are believed to have approached Centrica about a £10 billion joint bid, a move that offered a "British-led solution" tothe future of British Energy. Centrica shares have fallen this year, but yesterday rose by 4 per cent amid signs the British Gas owner could take its first step into nuclear generation. The company's hopes of bidding on its own have been frustrated by its lack of financial firepower and weak share price. It is now being courted by European firms as Centrica's involvement would water down criticisms of strategic industries going to foreign owners. A Centrica spokesman last night declined to comment on the speculation. Any takeover would involve buying the government's 35 per cent holding. In addition to its financial handicap, Centrica's lack of expertise in the nuclear industry may encourage the government to consider an approach from the likes of EDF. The French company runs 19 nuclear sites in France, where it supplies more than 80 per cent of the country's power needs. . | spob
