This from KLR's interim results for the 6 months ended 30th June 2019:

'In North America, which accounts for around half the group's revenue, reported revenue increased by 7% on a constant currency basis, despite performance being negatively impacted by unfavourable weather, with the region experiencing its wettest twelve months in history, as well as record cold spells in the first quarter. '

Appears to back up what SOM said about the weather.

dated 18-7-19

very interesting and worrying discussion

profit warnings are on the rise . some high profile companies ,general retail, chemicals, manufactoring industry, tec and software a trend that seems to be on the up. talk of a earnings recession in the US.

profit warning monitor some comapany creates an index, stress index 100 is the highest we are currently at 91 which is very high and quite serious. which is the highest level is 2008.

I'm long but uneasy biggest holder is reducing, we are now very long in the recovery cycle longest bull market ever theres a good piece on the Investors chronicle about how companies with fixed costs do well at the start of the economic cycle but get hit hard when the recession starts. Som is better equiped to survive now with net cash than when it got into trouble a few years back I think the example from memory may even be based on Somero check the investors chronicle site Phil Oakley writer.

Source.

Try to be a little less dramatic please in your posts and give readers the real facts which explain the reasons for the sale. Fully explained in these two RNSs and quite reasonable (eg complying with US tax law).

The China gdp figures maybe haven't helped today as its a market they are reported to be trying to crack all be it from memory only makes up about 5% of sales.

Agreed the ceo offloading shed loads doesn't inspire confidence

Equity ratio 5.6
Total Liabilities 31.12.18 $11.9M
Cash 31.12.18 $28M

I would call that a strong balance sheet.

Somero Enterprises Buys Line Dragon As Expects 2018 Earnings To Grow

its funny since this undate the tune has changed.

Geographically, in North America, the strong trading reflects the improved pipeline of construction projects.

The growth in the Rest of World territories was led by a significant contribution from Australia along with positive contributions from Scandinavia and India, Somero noted.

Meanwhile, in the Middle East, activity levels were solid throughout the year , and in Europe, the company said it saw healthy demand for new products and technology upgrades, in addition to opportunities to refresh the installed base of equipment.

to

Somero blamed rainfall for the slow sales during March and April usually months where the company performs strongly.

Last week Somero said: "Broad sections of the US experienced the highest levels of rainfall on record. The record rainfall seen in the US has delayed project starts which in turn has slowed the pace of equipment purchased by our customers, the impact of which was seen through historically strong trading months of March and April."

nothing at all reasuring

If the Fed cut interest rates funding will be cheaper and SOM's customers will find it cheaper to aquire new machinery

and the part about current warehouses not being fit for the new trent with distrubtion units is interesting. Not sure how true that is, and them being in short supply which is good news for SOM.

the aging management is a concern?
the business appears somewhat sensitive to the economy. Where do you see the economy heading in the short term, might be a better buying opportunity?

food for thought. let me know what you think.

Takeaway

The growth slowing trend continues. There is no denying that the pressure on hard economic growth (indicators) like industrial production, retail sales etc. is rising both in the US and Europe. This makes it very likely that defensive investments should outperform cyclical investments over the next few months.

I expect to see lower industrial production in the US going forward and further contraction in Germany and the Euro area in general.

All things considered, I am sticking to the few sentences I mention in most of my articles that cover cyclical stocks. The time to buy will come, but it's not now.

This is expected to continue due to higher infrastructure funding and incremental near-term spending for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
