BHP taking a stake must signal to others that if they too want a stake in this then they had best get in quick.

Understood Shakester2,

My point being the Directors have effectively been shouting it from the rooftops for many a month, with multiple positive updates, going on ecord as saying the company is massively undervalued, and also saying now is not the time to be selling out.

My point being, why should they now start announcing "we told you so" style RNS's, when they have been telling the market so for months..

We are nowhere near a "missing out" opportunity.

Months ago we had numerous reports of "predators" looking to snap us up.
I firmly believe that £2.00 is cheap.
If others agree then even buying this at a £1.00 isnt going to be missing out.. :-)

Lots and lots of money to be made here.

Todays news isnt the end of the story, its the start.. :-)

usually when a major takes a stake in a small company they're screaming it from the rooftops

Just to clarify, I wasn't suggesting the company is silent in general. I was referring to the news today having no official response as yet being of interest.

With all the attention on Cascabel people tend to forget that there are 72 other properties a few of which might be equally as rich? Your £2 could well be too cheap whites123. It is though proving to be a long game indeed.

Come on....
BHP have got a great deal, and the wording of the RNS confirms their plans.

I dont think there is any holder here who has never said that a £1.00 for this stock is cheap.
And it is... It is phenomenally cheap.
Let the traders play the dips and rises, for those looking to substantially increase their wealth, then buy, hold and wait for the long game..

£2.00 to maybe sell?
Thats still less than a 10 bagger from here.
The resources keep increasing and a battle between the giants for it would be great..

As for those who say the company is silent.... "No they are not.... They have provided update after update after update"..

We don't want to sell the whole pie. Just a slice .
If BHP are willing to pay 20% over market price @ 25.592 so am I.
Never thought i'd be tempted to top up yet again.
But I have. GLA.

jerryspaniel, thank you for that info, I had not heard of the Riversdale fiasco, it almost sounds as if the man had never visited the site?

Good news today, a heavy weight taking a slice, but will they want the whole pie on the cheap? Of course they will! BHP getting in on the act must surely raise the interest of the other players, perhaps we have finally seen the end of the price being ground down.

Guyana Goldfields sold out cheap. Maybe they were cash strapped.

Agreed, they wouldn't be able to buy that amount in the market without paying massive premiums. They'll be looking for the next institutional holder with weak hands I reckon

Didn't we know there was something going. Now we have confirmation. BHP building a stake. Lets see some other miners showing their hand. Price been far too low far far too long. GLA who have kept the faith.

My take would be that you don't buy a 6.1%, whilst a competitor owns 15%, without a plan to have a stake that is equal to or greater than the competitor. What can they do with 6.1%? Nothing. So there must be a bigger, longer term plan out there.
I don't suppose they could have bought that amount without moving the share price further. So it makes sense, but only if there is further action in the future. Cant see why anyone would sell shares below 25.5p now.

BHP will buy all of the 103.1 million SolGold shares, a 6.1% stake, held by Guyana Goldfields at a price of 25.592 pence per share, a 20% premium to SolGold's closing price in London on Tuesday of 21.35p.

BHP Chief Executive Officer Andrew Mackenzie said the deal would see the FTSE 100 miner gain "exposure to a high-quality copper exploration project in Ecuador, which is a highly prospective location for BHP."

The purchase price shows that the current share price should be a lot higher. BHP values us at c. £450mill.

Paying a premium to get in, small drop in the ocean for them cash wise but certainly puts us in a better position than we were yesterday

I'm not to sure if it is good news, it seems to me that they have acquired a chunk of solgold via the back door. Let's see what the market thinks.
