Correct, money not in our personal back pocket but still a major player with active interest

The purchase price shows that the current share price should be a lot higher. BHP values us at c. £450mill.

Paying it to who though, seems like Guyana goldfields got paid.... not solgold.

Paying a premium to get in, small drop in the ocean for them cash wise but certainly puts us in a better position than we were yesterday

I'm not to sure if it is good news, it seems to me that they have acquired a chunk of solgold via the back door. Let's see what the market thinks.

Open cry on the LME jerryspaniel?

I confess no experience of mining at all, although I have seen the inside workings of various 'brass from muck' type industries, the closest to mining being slate and china clay quarries. I suspect though they have a fair amount in common with mining in general way. High capital inputs at the outset to gain critical mass of production, machinery, power supplies, water, holding ponds/pumps etc, and then you have to transport the product to it's market, which is another whole load of investment. Then all the other stuff that comes with the territory of an operation in an unfamiliar place, the politics, and the man management and safety etc.

The mooted 12 interested parties looking at Solg will presumably have experience of all of these things and know the costs involved and the time it takes to get a viable operation up and producing, and getting product sold.

If the recent finds at Cascabel are very good, it might be possible to raise some of the necessary capital by pre-selling product, but that of course works best when the price of a commodity is rising.

So not being an insider I have to wait until the company releases news. I also remind myself that there 70 other properties besides Cascabel, a few of which could be as rich or richer than Cascabel. I hope my waiting pays off!

Thanks Lefrene. That is the downside of BBs. I do get to see all the RNS's and often pop on to co. websites. However I don't trawl through mining journals, and don't think I would. In one of my previous lives I was a metal trader, though never involved with mine exploration and development, though I do have some knowledge of oil field e&p (another life!). But a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing.
I was hoping that there may be a few on here who have some mine development knowledge and/or read the mining journals. Though of course anyone can say anything on here and why should we believe them!
We do need an updated MRE, and some idea of cost of mine development - or just a bid would do me...

jerryspanile I guess that's a problem with a public BB, you can't be in control of it. Perhaps just having the RNS's emailed would be a better idea? For all the speculation on here it's just that 'speculation'. The only hard information is via RNS and the company website, plus trawling through the press associated with mining. As we all know Solg is waiting on the MRE and the preliminary cost estimates before one is likely to see any moves, simply because those with the deep pockets will want proofs of viability.

Jerry i am on 20% of my portfolio but that does not include pension funds as most of mine are final salary so own my house and can retire at 55 but if solg comes in will go at 50. it is very risky strategy and would not recommended it

Any chance we could just keep to stuff that it interesting and relevant to SOLG? I get an email everytime someone posts on SOLG and the content is usually a great disappointment!
On a somewhat more relevant subject discussed above, I was wondering what all of us believers think is the right % of their portfolio to have invested in SOLG? I see that someone above is at 20%. That is a lot by any criteria. I am just below 3% and I think its fairly punchy for a smallcap with one real asset (Ecuador). My biggest investment is only 8% and that's a top performing generalist fund. Not sure I have ever been over 10%, except on country exposure and maybe property, but that involved multiple assets. I would regard myself as quite risk aware and (was) an investment professional.

You could add 'hasty and careless' to your self admitted list of inadequacies realist6, as you have double posted! You are perhaps, at least in your case, proof that you can take the boy out of the council estate, but you can't take the council estate out of the boy! But, oh look! Here's that ignore button again, into the bin with you :¬)

Thank you jerryspaniel, the ironic observation that every time this company puts out good news the price gets marked down. Hence a sharply dropping price presumably indicates that there is some really good news going to break!
