DD, there's no possible about it. They do have enough shares to override other shareholders, if that's what they wish to do. Any plans they may or may not have with Newcrest are meaningless if BHP don't join with them.

After several years of waiting this does now seem to be coming together again. Gold resuming it's uptrend, and copper over $3, also helping. One hopes this is the last chance for players to take a seat at the table before the auction begins :¬)

Time for a weekend take over rumour in the newspapers? The springy share price would make that article easier..

Re Cornerstone, its board and colluders have enough shares to possibly over-ride their other shareholders wanting to accept - perhaps for "dog-in-the-manger" reasons, or because they're plotting with Newcrest et al for something we'll only discover after the bid fails.

tibszol, if cornerstone expect a bid for SOLG, they should be accepting the offer. They will then own 15% of SOLG instead of 7%. There are only 2 ways for them to be better off not accepting the offer:1. Be subject to a takeover themselves from another party.2. Alpala to be sold independently from SOLG.

NM need do nothing, Cornerstone shareholders will be biting their nails down to the knuckle by now, if Solgold bid fails Cornerstone shares by the end of next week will be half what they are currently and in eighteen months time Solgold will pick up Cornerstone`s share in Alpala for tuppence h`penny. I suspect that NM is secretly hoping the bid for Cornerstone fails, then he can look forward to acquiring the rump of Alpala for next to nothing. Is it conceivable that Cornerstone share holders will be so stupid as to reject Solgold`s offer, they may well be hoping a bid for Solgold comes in and in that process their shares go up in value, but who can say if a bid for Solgold comes in that it will be successful, I for one would not entertain any bid at less than £5 per share, that is how confident I am in Solgold`s long term future, they have, as NM has said many times, the clear opportunity to be to Ecuador what BHP was and is to Australia.

The big question is whether other potential suitors will try to prevent BHP raising their stake to 29% by launching a bid of their own to avoid being blocked out. Thus, if there is to be a bid this year, I don't think it will be started by BHP.

I'd be happy with no bid this year. It's much better to see the driiling results from Porvenir etc first.

I've said before, I don't see BHP making an offer this year. They would have to pay over £2bn for Alpala plus some unproven prospects. If they wait until Q2 they will most likely get 3 proven tier 1's for £4bn. The way that majors look at things, the second is better value.I still believe BHP will consolidate their position by increasing their holding to 29% in order to block other suitors.

I think CGP will accept SOLG's offer and I bet McDonald may be coming under pressure from the Ecuador government not too frustrate this move though all guesswork at present. News definitely close though

I am not into charts much, but SOLG looks as though it’s solidly rising and would take off well if there was sudden good news

Lowtrawler,

Agree regarding Cornerstone. They could easily be bypassed. I'd accept the SOLG offer now.

A couple of points to note.- cornerstone will only be of interest as an acquisition target if acquiring SOLG.- it is not necessary to acquire cornerstone in order to acquire SOLG and in most acquisition scenarios, this will be the case.- if it has not been necessary to acquire cornerstone in the course of acquiring SOLG, it is highly unlikely to be acquired later. They will be left to default on their financing commitments and handover their 15% in Alpala to the new owners for next to nothing.

If i was BHP i would be making an offer as soon as they can . If Solgold keeps hitting Copper and Gold the price will keep going up as you say .

The big question is will we get news this afternoon on Porvenir or Monday am.

Last time it was at 1.50 so if today in the next 55mins maybe .

Surely BHP are better off making an offer for SOLG first before Porvenir etc are assessed further, so the take out price is lower, rather than wasting time bidding for Cornerstone's small share.
If the Cornerstone shares are bypassed they will become easily obtainable later at a smaller premium.

Just my musings and not what I want. We need the drill to keep turning and results to keep flowing. We don't need to be robbed at this early stage ! That's the risk.

We're trying to apply logic to cornerstone when logic clearly does not apply. They will do what they want and can live to regret it.

The chart looks exciting, but no spectacular price increase as yet, by that I mean 20-30% increases. Next week is going to be very interesting indeed.
