You need to be very patient in such miners. One trait that I have never possessed but I was fortunate to get into SOLG just a few months back just below 20p, so timing was perfect as it stands. Hopefully over the next coming months, this investing now will be saying the exact same thing!Good luck all!

Porvenir could be the biggest Copper/GOld find ever

Thats why imho it wont stop rising until we reach pound/pounds ...Not every day of course there will be pull backs but higher highs and higher lows .

Tell you what, SOLG haven't exactly excited the market in recent months with bland language and routine reports. Now that they are in the fight with CGP and BHP, the hyperbole is fantastic....500m dripping with copper, I love it, even if not very scientific.

DD, if Newcrest are buying CGP then they're keeping it under wraps as the CGP price doesn't reflect it. Frankly, I think the talk of bids is premature. I'd put the chance of a bid this year at less than 5%. The majors will want more concrete results at some of the sites. I believe Q2 onwards is much more likely.

LT - perhaps the slight lull in buyers for Solg today is because they are doing just that ! (Buying Cornerstone instead)

If Newcrest buys Cornerstone it wont give them control . They would have only 20% of Solgold .

No ways they would get my vote even if they offered a pound .

Goldrush, nobody is going to buy CGP other than as part of a full blown bid for SOLG, not to sit at 29%. Even then, they'll only bid for CGP if they need their 7% to win. As I say, I'm open minded on Newcrest, I just don't think they have the firepower to compete effectively. Happy to be proven wrong.

I would imagine some of the directors would like to get the highest sale price possible so that they can cash out. The closet example of a similar find in recent times, in my opinion, is the Oyu Tolgoi mine in Mongolia. Worth comparing the massive Wafi-Golpu mine as well. These mines are so big, so well endowed with minerals, that it's difficult to fathom:)

I'm sat here because I believe that given the extensive high quality assets that Solg owns, this should be at least a $10 billion company and not a $1 billion company.

NM given the squeeze he is in seems to be playing his cards well, BHP and Newcrest will also have a plan. Are there any other players yet to show their hand? CGP could throw itself into the arms of an outsider, just to spite the others.

Been quite some time since we have seen a major bidding war for a large mining/exploration stock. I don't think Newcrest will walk away, if they acquired SOLG it would be a huge asset for them and exactly what they need to compete with the big boys a long life, multi commodity tier 1 asset. Are there any other companies, other than BHP or Newcrest, looking like potential suitors?

Lowtrawler

Further to our discussions over the weeks and yours today re BHP and with DD....I believe Newcrest(NCM) are not going to walk away.Take out CGP and they have 20% of SOLG and 15% ENSA.Like BHP they can buy in the market to take out institutional holdings etc and go up to 29%....Between them they would have control at that stage....Let us see where it goes. as that cannot be bad for us shareholders.....IMHO
